OBITUARY FOR L.C. FLOYD (“POPS”)

It is with celebration and sorrow that we inform you of the passing of L.C. Floyd, beloved father of Davidella Marie Floyd (Davie). L.C. Floyd (“Pops”) died on December 1st and is mourned by Davie and the extended Floyd family. In lieu of cards, flowers, or planting trees, please honor Mr. Floyd’s memory by giving to the L.C. Floyd Scholarship Fund (https://www.shelbygiving.com/App/Giving/pilg1819292).

L.C. Floyd (Pops) was born and raised in Jonesville, Texas. He was the second of three boys, Carl Floyd (d) and R.L. Floyd (d), and had one younger maternal sister, Lemora Floyd Walker (d). All were reared their single mother, Mamie Floyd, and their maternal grandparents Sam and Mariah Floyd. Pops had a paternal older sister, Marie Willis of California (97), and two paternal younger sisters Evelyn (d) of Indiana, and Jessie Lee (d) of Dallas who were raised by his father and stepmother, Jesse and Dollie Devers (both deceased).

After the untimely death of their mother, R.L. and L.C. left home for Dallas in their late teens to join other extended family members. They both worked for Neuhoff Brothers Meat Packing Company where L.C. worked in the tallow room until the plant closed in December 1979. Other than recovery from 3rd degree burns to his feet from two industrial accidents, he never missed a day of work at the plant. He retired as a janitor from M.E. Moses warehouse in the 80’s.

On May 16, 1946, L.C. married the love of his life, Lily Marie Robinson (d). He affectionately called her "Lil" and she responded by calling him "Pops". To many, he became known as Pops. Twenty-one years later they were blessed to become the proud parents of one adopted daughter, Davidella Marie. When Lil was disabled by a massive stroke in 1992, he refused to place her in a nursing facility and he and Davie cared for her in their home until Lil’s death on August 4, 1998. By any standard, Pop’s caregiving for Lil was impeccable.

From all appearances, it could be said that Mr. Floyd was just a well-dressed, quiet, calm, courteous, kind, mild-mannered man. Yes, he was that and so much more! L.C. loved his immediate and extended family and was a loyal friend. He was especially close to his beloved sister Lemora Walker (married to James Walker (d)) and was a constant presence in the lives of her 12 children, whom he loved and nurtured in many ways. He leaves behind a legacy of peace and love.

Mr. Floyd was a man of duty and responsibility. He enjoyed going to church and demonstrated stewardship in the giving of his tithes and offerings. Mr. Floyd was a faithful member of the Pilgrim Rest Missionary Baptist Church in Dallas, Texas for more than 70 years. He served with the Brotherhood and as a devoted member of the Willing Workers Benevolence Committee. As his health declined, he was cared for by his daughter, Davie, and his ever faithful, longtime caregiver, Mrs. Elizabeth Taylor of Dallas, TX. Although he had near perfect health, he eventually succumbed to dementia and complications from nursing home-acquired Covid-19.

Mr. L.C. Floyd (Pops) is survived by his daughter Davidella Marie Floyd (Davie) and his godson Claude Williams (Sonny) and Olevia Williams, Claude’s wife who was instrumental in facilitating caregiving services for Mr. and Mrs. Floyd as their health failed. Pops shared a special bond and appreciation with his nieces and nephews including: James Floyd (Squeaky (d)), Joanne Moore, Janis Williams (d), Juliet Booker, Leatrice Dismuke (Joyce), Marilyn Franklin (d), Teresa Walker, James Walker (Jerome), Ronald Walker (Wendell), Angelina Walker, Brenda Eustice, and Dorothy Walker (Mica); Dwight Floyd, Dorothy Louise Moore; and Richard Collins. His great nieces and nephews include: Mashonda Walker, Monica Franklin, Jamitra Proenza, Karona Spead, Kristen Moore, Sonya Salters, Jessica Sudler, Jerrell Taylor, David Walker, Tamara Walker, Garrison Eustice, Makiah Eustice, Jonathan Walker, Roderick Walker, Derrick Dismuke, Shaniqua Walker, Christopher Wilson, Donald Moore, Eric Grogans, Brian Collins, Andrew Collins, and a host of great, great nieces and nephews. May Pops’ memory continuously bless and inspire our lives.
