Reflections of The Life of Allen Groggs, Jr.
Allen Groggs, Jr. was born on May 12, 1927, in Longview, Texas. He attended Longview Public School System and later moved to Dallas and attended the Dallas Business College.
Allen worked many years at the Jefferson Tower in Oak Cliff and worked many years at Bell Helicopter in Hurst, Texas. He later became an entrepreneur and established A.G. Pallet Yard in the West Dallas area where he supplied pallets throughout the DFW metroplex, until he retired.
Allen loved the Lord and the Church; he was dedicated and made sacrifices as a faithful servant to Trinity Park Church of Christ. Allen came to Christ at Trinity Park Church of Christ in the 60s and worked tirelessly, if it needed to be done, he made every effort to ensure the church was taken care of. He served as a Leading Brother, Trustee, Finance Officer, Sunday School Teacher, Bus Driver, and Custodian. Allen loved singing God’s praises and was truly a spiritual inspiration. He was the Choral Director of the Trinity Park Singing group for more than 45 years and over the years the Trinity Park Singing Group became well-known to many, and he also started a singing group of young ladies known as the Trinity Aires. Allen was also a member of the gospel quartet group, "THE KINGS OF HARMONY", traveling abroad singing God’s praises.
His favorite scripture:
Proverbs 3: 5-6
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight”
Despite his health, he still encouraged many through singing gospel hymns at church and family reunions; He loved singing happy birthday and believe it or not cooking, and he would give out recipes that some of us may have never heard of.
Allen was preceded in death by his parents, Allen Groggs, Sr. and Lula Mae Newhouse Groggs, and sister, Zephyrdee Groggs.
Allen is survived by his devoted wife, Excell Gatson Groggs and his loving children, Alicia Groggs Arps, Tereice Groggs and Autrey Groggs of Houston, Texas; grandchildren Troy Groggs (Sophia); Dimatina Brown, Jamoncie (Brittney) Sanders, Janerius Sanders, Taylor Brown and Keisha Groggs, and a host of great-grandchildren, brothers and sister-in-laws, extended family and friends.
