Catherine Crosby Hicks With deep love and gratitude, we celebrate the life of Catherine Crosby Hicks, who God call home on Wednesday, July 2, 2025, at the age of 90. A lifelong resident of Dallas, Texas, Catherine was born on August 18, 1934, to Albert and Bessie Crosby and spent her life nurturing, guiding, and uplifting everyone blessed to know her.

Catherine was a devoted woman of faith, serving the Lord faithfully throughout her life. She was a longtime member of St. John Baptist Church in Oak Cliff, where she poured her heart into her church community and lived her faith with grace and humility. Catherine was preceded in death by her loving husband, Douglas Hicks; her siblings Jake Morris, Herman Crosby, James Crosby, Lilly Crosby Peterson, and Helen Crosby. She leaves behind her cherished daughters: Linda Gilbert, Carrie Walker, and Mary Hodge. Her love continues through her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, each of whom carries a part of her heart. She is also survived by her beloved sister, Bessie Mae Crosby Record. Her life was filled with purpose, compassion, and creativity.

Catherine channeled her nurturing spirit into education and entrepreneurship, first as the head of a preschool, then later as the proud owner and operator of her own childcare center. Generations of children were blessed by her care and guidance. Her entrepreneurial spirit didn’t stop there. A master of the kitchen,

Catherine's gift for cooking soul food extended beyond family gatherings and into her lifelong dream of restaurant ownership. Her cooking wasn’t just a talent—it was a calling, a source of joy, and a way of building community. She also had a flair for beauty and tradition, creating gorgeous floral arrangements for holidays and celebrations. Her home was a hub of warmth and welcome, especially during the holidays, when her legendary meals and open door brought comfort to anyone in need of food or fellowship. In her later years, Catherine embraced the joy of travel and leisure. She was an avid traveler, making frequent trips to the Bahamas, Las Vegas, and Choctaw Casino Bingo in Oklahoma.

Her passion for fun and community led her to pioneer-chartered bus trips to Oklahoma, gathering groups for unforgettable weekend getaways full of laughter, music, and games. Throughout her neighborhood, Catherine was affectionately known as the "Candy House on Alaska." Her generosity and joy lit up the faces of every child who stopped by, whether they had a penny or not. She created community wherever she went, one act of kindness at a time.
