Sam, a faithful husband, loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather and great great-grandfather who passed away on October 11, 2025.

Sam attended school in Dallas, TX.  He graduated from the historical Bishop College.

Sam served in the United States Army for 4 years.  He was employed with American Airlines for over 25 years.

Sam’s warm and welcoming nature left an everlasting impact on everyone he encountered.  Known for his wisdom, genuine love and care for others.  He has an extraordinary ability to make anyone feel valued and cherished.  Sam’s kind heart touched the lives of many people throughout his journey.

Sam excepted Christ at an early age. He joined the Nazareth Missionary Baptist Church in November 1979.  He became a dedicated deacon and was the Superintendent of the Sunday School until his health began to fail him.  One of Sams enduring passions was his unwavering love and devotion to Sunday School.  He loved studying, learning and teaching Gods word.  After Sunday School, he would say “Sunday starts at 9:30.”  That quote has carried on for quite a while.  His favorite scriptures are Psalms 23.

Sam loved his family. Beyond the immediate family, Sam formed and cherished bonds with a wide circle of relatives and friends who will deeply miss his presence in their lives.

He was proceeded in death by his parents, mother Willie Etta Rhone and father, Sam Houston Johnson; his son’s Joseph Scott and Rodney Scott, and his grandsons Dewayne Brazzell Jr. and Robert Wynn.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife Francis L. Scott.  His children Kelley Scott, Ajiah Denise Brazzell, Dewayne Brazzell, Cheryl Wynn, and Donna Brazzell. He leaves behind 10 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren, and 1 great great-grandchild.  Sister-in-law Paulette Reece (Roger Reece), and a host of family and friends.

Sam’s grandchildren loved their “Papa” dearly.  They will always cherish the bond they had.

As we bid farewell to this exceptional man of God, let us find solace in the beautiful memories he leaves behind and strive to honor his legacy by embodying the kindness, love and generosity that defined his remarkable life.
