Lawrence William Muckelroy Obituary

Obituary

Lawrence “Larry” W. Muckelroy, Jr., born in Dallas on January 16, 1956, was the youngest of three children and a lifelong learner with a deep commitment to family, faith, and community. He passed away on January 6, 2026.

Larry excelled academically and athletically throughout his school years, attending Hamilton Park, Harry Stone Elementary, Sarah Zumwalt Junior High, and David W. Carter High School. He was a talented basketball and football player, contributing to multiple championship teams and standing out as a defensive back. After graduating in 1974, he continued his education at the University of North Texas.

Professionally, Larry worked for Electronic Data Systems (EDS) and later for the Transportation Security Administration (TSA).

Having a solid Christian upbringing, he was baptized and attended Bethel AME Church in Dallas. Larry was surrounded by strong bible teachings through regular and consistent attendance at Sunday school, youth choir, and church services. He was also a member of the Boy Scouts of America.

Many remember Larry as smart, independent, always challenging others and a very good friend... calm, kind, intelligent, and encouraging. He was a charitable person, contributing to family members, friends, and community organizations.

Larry is preceded in death by his parents Lawrence and Laura Muckelroy.

He leaves to cherish his memory, sisters Marsha Muckelroy Ricks and Jackie Houston-McNeal (Elvin). Also, a beloved acting big brother, Wilbur Williams, niece Leslie Ricks, nephew Jonathan Houston, grand nieces and nephews, loving cousins, and many wonderful friends.

One of Larry’s last written reflections was, he hoped God’s spirit shined through him…and we believe it did!

He will forever live in our hearts.
