The Life and Legacy of Sherman Lee Evans Sr

Sherman Lee Evans Sr was born September 4, 1948, in Leon County, Texas to the union of Mr. H.M. and Lena Evans. The Evans family relocated to Ft Worth, TX where they united at First St John Baptist Church. Sherman began a lifelong walk of faith where his journey was marked by excellence. He began his education at George Washington Carver Elementary, where his love for basketball ignited. Sherman graduated from the historic I.M. Terrell High School, where his talent on the court earned him the legendary nickname, “TV”. He earned this title by the “must watch way” he played the game so gracefully. “TV” always shined on the court when the cameras rolled. His skills led to a scholarship at St. Gregory’s College in Shawnee, OK. Sherman continued his education at the University of Texas at Arlington. While maintaining his passion for basketball, Sherman traveled across the globe to Turkey, where he played professionally for a privately owned basketball team.

Sherman united with the Valley Baptist Church where he joined a singing group. Together, they traveled uplifting the community through spiritual songs.  Sherman worked for the City of Dallas for over 30 years then moved to Dallas County, married Sherry and retired. Sherman was honored in San Antonio at the 2017 Texas UIL State basketball championship tournament along with fellow I.M. Terrell teammates and coach for winning the 1967 Class 4A Prairie View Interscholastic League State title, commemorating the 50th anniversary.
