Mary Youland Jordan Obituary

Mary Youlane Jordan was born on October 31, 1948, to Earma Lee Williams and Robert Jones.

She was raised in church and would often say she attended a “Baptist church in the morning and a Holiness church at night” (Meaning they were at church all day). She later became a dedicated member of Christian Holy Temple C.O.G.I.C under the leadership of Pastor Clarence C. Henderson.

Mary worked hard throughout her life to provide for her family. She worked at Hans Mueller Meat Packing Company for over 30 years. She went on to work at Cook-N on Lamar, a cozy restaurant near Downtown Dallas, where Mary worked as a chef.  She would later retire from Walmart.

Mary was a skilled cook, and her home was always the place to be, for all holidays and Sunday dinners.  She had exceptional knowledge and the ability to cook food without following a recipe.  Her expertise granted her the ability to critique all the food provided by others….and we do mean ALL.  She was able to tell if something was cooked too fast or too slow.  She could taste and determine if food had too much of one season and not enough of the other.

She had an appreciation for a nice pair of shoes, fancy dresses, and suits. She not only enjoyed buying clothes, but she also liked making them as well.  Her closet was filled with multiple outfits that only differed in color.  She had mastered the craft of sewing and design.  She had created dresses (formal and casual), full outfits, matching short-sets, handkerchiefs, and anything else that was requested.

Mary had a laugh that would shock you, as it didn’t align with her normal, stern, and straightforward demeanor.  You would often hear this laugh in between her trash-talking during a game of spades, tonk, or dominoes.  Depending on the hand she was dealt, she would warn her partner to “Pay Attention”.   Her daily routine consisted of her daytime soap operas “General Hospital" and “The Young and the Restless” and court TV shows “Judge Judy” and “Judge Mathis”.  She also enjoyed watching local professional sports; she would always call to see what channel the game was on.  Mary, with her iPhone, was another task; but she enjoyed it because of its FaceTime capabilities; this led to a lot of random group FaceTimes with whoever's name or number she mistakenly pressed.

While Mary did not desire to drive, she was always present for every dinner, celebration, or holiday gathering, when her health allowed.  She often sent her children and grandchildren to the grocery store or on fast food runs to acquire whatever she wanted. They would later return to her, sitting in her recliner, playing with her iPad; legs crossed and looking pretty. Mary had a natural and flawless complexion, with no family secret regimen. When people asked her what she used, she would plainly say “water.”  In more recent days, as her health declined, visits from her great-grandchildren always made her smile.

Mary is preceded in death by her beloved spouse, Edward, her parents, her siblings: Robert Lee, Ray Lee, Bruce, Alice, Susan, Johnny Ray, and Regina; great-grandson, DeTwon, and the best son-in-law, Tommy.

She leaves to cherish her memories: her children, Rodney and Angela; her grandchildren: Danielle (Zedrick), Rashad, Robin (Markus), Brittany (Detain), Jeremy, DeAndre, Jasmene, Roshawn, Rodney Jr., and Reese; her great-grandchildren: A’Maya, ZaMaiaya, Synasia, Jer’myah, Karson, LeDarion, and Markus II.

Mary’s life was surrounded by her close-knit family, and the joy that is found in every gathering, every meal shared, and every story told. Although she has left this world, her presence will forever be felt.
