I wish to express my sincere condolences to Latrell, Gene and the entire Cambridge family. The Dallas community has truly lost a valuable treasure. Barbara's contributions to the human service community were enormous. She was well respected by all and her voice of wisdom and reason will be sorely missed. She was my personal friend, mentor and colleague. She had so much love and pride in her children and grand children. My dear friend will be greatly missed. I know that God has welcomed her into the gates of heaven. Barbara Ricard Landix

I was unaware that Dr. Cambridge had passed away. I knew her as so many did as being "That One" who kept her hand on the pulse of the community. I worked on several HIV projects with her in the 90's and she was instrumental in me sitting on the Dallas Ryan White Committee. Dr. Cambridge was a mentor to me as well as one of my cherished SHEROES. I will keep her memory in my heart and thoughts. Please accept my sincere condolences.

Like so many others, my life was changed by Dr Cambridge. I will miss her wisdom, her spirit, her humor, her grace, and her honesty. She helped me to let my light shine because she was such a fearless advocate and so supportive. When you follow such a leader, it gives you a strength that you didn’t know before you met her—she always made me feel like I could do anything, which she no doubt believed because she had been able to do so much in her life. The world has lost a great warrior, but she leaves behind so many people whose lives she changed that her legacy lives on.

I had the privilege of working with Barbara Cambridge for many years in the OB/GYN Department of Maternal Health and Family Planning at UT Southwestern. The experience is one that I will never forget. She definitely made a positive impact on my life and many others. Barbara honestly cared about people and that trait was shown in her work and personal life. May the God of tender mercies and the God of all comfort be with the family at this time of sadness.

Barbara believed that access to safe, unbiased, high-quality sexual and reproductive healthcare is a universal human right. Her mission at UT Southwestern was to empower women seen in our community based clinics to access our services regardless of identity, personal circumstances, or income. Her focus always remained on supporting access to care for every person in Dallas county who needs it regardless of the shifting cultural and political climate. As a mentor she taught me the principles of access, equity, and reproductive justice ,lessons that made a positive difference in my life and in the lives of literally hundreds of thousands of women in Dallas County. She will be missed but always remembered for the contributions she made to my life and others.

Dr. Cambridge will live long and strong in my heart and in the hearts of the many, many people that she blessed through her giving heart. Her family, her community, her former colleagues - all of the people whose lives she blessed - we shall always remember and love her. That love also extends to her family; peace and love to her children and grandchildren.

Our prayers and thoughts will remain with this loving family. So grateful to God for having her as well as her late husband in our lives. We didn't just baby sit the children, but we were a family connected by God. Her winning smile, her wisdom in dealing with children's education, her consistent attitude of respect for seniors, and many other favored attributes will be sorely missed. Lovingly yours, Dalphine

I had the privilege to know and work with Barbara at UT Southwestern and Parkland for nearly 40 years. She always devoted herself to and advocated for women who were marginalized by society or the healthcare system: pregnant teenagers, pregnant women with addictions and women with HIV. Her efforts to empower women to choose come to Parkland clinics for care and trust the medical team helped an entire generation of mothers and babies be born without HIV transmission. I learned from her story-telling and wisdom about how to care for people more than just treat their medical conditions. Barbara helped me be a better doctor and a better person. I’ll always carry her wisdom in my memories and her passion in my heart.

Barbara Cambridge had a long career at UT Southwestern Medical Center and Parkland Memorial Hospital. She joined the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology's Maternal Health and Family Planning Division in 1969 as Director of Social Services and also worked in the genetics clinics as a social worker. In 1976 she became the first female African-American Associate Professor at UT Southwestern. An Advocate for women living with HIV and AIDs, in 2009, the Texas State Senate recognized Barbara for her passion, commitment and leadership in addressing issues that negatively impact women and the community. Today, if you visit the Labor and Delivery floor at Parkland Memorial Hospital, you will find Barbara Cambridge among the leaders in Obstetrics and Gynecology on the display "Mentors and Milestones in Obstetrics and Gynecology". A fitting tribute to a woman who did so much for so many. Thank you, Barbara. You will be missed!

"What moves through us is a silence, a quiet sadness, a longing for one more day, one more word, one more touch. We may not understand why you left this earth so soon, or why you left before we were ready to say good-bye, but little by little, we begin to remember not just that you died, but that you lived. And that your life gave us memories too beautiful to forget" John and Ella Johnson

Barbara and I became strong friends over the last 20 years having met at Dallas Summit events. 6 years ago she attended many of my classes at El Centro College because she loved the varied writing assignments plus the fun the 2 of us had after class; she sat way in the back and watched the interaction closely and would often share stories---a few students graduated because of special attention from her. I place her high on my GODDESS list: she simply glowed with grace and goodness. Those of us in her web of warmth are richly blessed. Special prayers for her precious family.

Such a LOVELY LADY ! I met Dr. Cambridge working at Vogel Alcove. Dr. Cambridge shared a lot of her knowledge and books with me, she’s such POSITIVE LADY. Even in retirement, I would call her just to say hello and talk about how we used to drink tea.
