Obituary of Joseph Sam ~~Joseph Leron Sam was born on September 1, 1944 in Opelousas, Louisiana to Albert and Alberta Sam. Both parents and his stepfather, Wesley Sam Jr. preceded him in death. Joseph went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, July 27, 2017 at Baylor Hospital with his pastors and family by his side. He spent his early life in LaMarque, Texas with nine brothers and sisters. At age eighteen he enlisted in the U.S. Army. He served his country for three years in Dachau, Germany. Upon discharge he returned to Houston, Texas and enrolled in Texas Southern University. He would later attend Northwood University and Southern Bible Institute. Joseph ultimately resided in Dallas area where he, along with his wife, lived a gigantic life that reflected his great love for God, his family, and friends. It has been said by those who knew him that his energy, enthusiasm, and joy were contagious. Soon after he accepted Jesus as his Lord and personal Savior in 1977, he became a member of Oak Cliff Bible Fellowship. He faithfully served as elder, counselor in Harvester ministry, greeter, and a team member of Comfort and Care ministry. During his later years he enjoyed attending the Thursday morning CBMC Bible Study and discipling men through Operation Timothy. Because of his entrepreneurial spirit, he along with his wife owned and operated a successful automobile leasing company until retirement. Those who are left to cherish his memory are his wife of 45 years, Janice; three daughters, Jovonne, Jana and Janay. His son Brian preceded him in death on July 28, 2015; three grandchildren, Cine’, Armani, and Artavious; one great grandchild, Kingston; siblings, Queen lawia Amen, Geraldine Sam, Charles Sam (Robbie), Michael Sam, Linda Sam and Barbara Sam, Albert Sam, Leroy Sam and Paul Sam preceded him in death. He will also be missed by his nieces, nephews, cousins, brothers-in-laws, sisters-in-law, those mentored and numerous friends.
