Obituary of Victoria Toney Barbour

Obituary of Victoria Barbour ~~Victoria was born August 6, 1933 to the parentage of Lonnie and Elizabeth Toney [nee Goins] (deceased). She was the sixth child of 10 children born to this union. Those preceding her in death, her parents, Clamous Toney, Alene Toney Boyd, Etta M. Toney Brown, Pastor L.V. Toney, Doris Toney Polk, and Pastor Lawrence Toney. Victoria accepted Christ under the leadership of Pastor William McNeil at the Corinth Baptist Church, later relocating to Dallas with her parents. Prior to her relocation to Dallas, Victoria completed her secondary education in Giddings, Texas, as an Honors student and an outstanding soloist. She continued her education at Prairie View A&M University, where she completed her studies within three years. Upon completing her undergraduate studies, Victoria attended Texas Women’s University, where she received her Master’s Degree. Additionally, she sought a vocation as a beautician at the Madam CJ Walker Beauty School, in which she later became the owner/operator of two beauty salons. Victoria also owned and operated Toney’s Fashion Apparel Store. She was also involved in civic duty as a member of the Dallas City Mayor’s Advisory Board. Upon acquiring her teacher’s certification, she initially began teaching at Sequoyah Jr. High School. Victoria continued her teaching career within the Dallas Independent School District for 34 years and retired as a school administrator. Victoria taught Mission 1 at her church for many years and also loved singing. Victoria’s friends and family members often referred to her as “Vickie” or “Aunt Vickie.” Victoria was a both a charter and life-long member of the Rose of Sharon Baptist Church. With memories of her life she leaves: her brothers, Dr. A.C. Toney, Reverend David Toney, sister, Evangelist Lizetta Armstrong (Bobby), nephews, Lawrence Toney, Reverend Willie C. Toney, Robert Toney, Lonnie Toney (Pam), Reverend Billy Toney (Alicia), Drexel Toney, Dr. Corey Toney (Clarette), Elder Engleburg Toney (Delvery), nieces, Charlene Davenport (Tom), Margaret Boyd Ward, Felinda Cook (Reggie), Vershun Kenard (Sam), Mariesa Toney, Lisa Williams (Reginald), Monique Thrash (Orlando), Angela Fudge (Jeffrey), and Dinah Toney. She has many great nieces and nephews, two great friends, Mae Dell Proctor and Betty Myles.
