Obituary of Paula Brown Mrs. Paula S. Brown was born in Dallas, Texas, on July 17, 1932, to the late Joseph and Pauline Larkin. She attended B.F. Darrell Grade School and Booker T. Washington High School. She graduated in 1949 as a member of the national honor society. During her time at Booker T. Washington, she competed in various oratorical contests. Her efforts were highlighted during her graduation as part of the commencement project: “Design For Living.” Paula’s speech was “Speak the Speech I Pray You.” She also had a love for music and begin playing the piano early in life. Her love for music continued throughout her teen years. She attended Prairie View A&M University, where she majored in music. She played the piano for Hamilton Park United Methodist Church and led the children’s choir. In December 1951, Paula married Robert Brown, Jr. and from this union they had five children. The most important thing in life to Paula was her family. After the youngest child was 6 years old, Paula took a job at the church’s daycare. She continued to play the piano for the church while working in the daycare. She was later employed by two other daycare operations, Jeanetta Foundation and Bethlehem Center, respectively. She retired in 1997. Paula departed this life on Wednesday, December 28, 2016. Paula is preceded in death by her daughter, Robbie Brown-Johnson and two brothers; Joseph Larkin, Dallas, George Larkin, Dallas. . Paula leaves to mourn: her husband of 65 years, Dr. Robert Brown, Jr., one daughter Janet Thompson (Burnett) from Missouri City; three sons, Michael (Cindy), Dallas, David (Tammy), Dallas, Robert (Angela) Katy; one brother, Dr. William F. Larkin (Maggie) Dallas, a host of grandchildren, two great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of relatives and friends. A special thanks to Dr. Sharon Larkin, Bobbie Emerson and Mary Jennings for your assistance and loving care over the years for Paula Brown. She will be greatly missed by many.
