Obituary of Mark Anthony Wheeler

Please share a memory of Mark to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Obituary of Mark Wheeler Sr. Mark Anthony Wheeler, Sr. was born on February 13, 1954, to the parentage of Horace Wheeler, Jr. and Geraldine Wheeler in Dallas, Texas. He was the third child of four children born to this union. His educational experiences included attending Alta Mesa Elementary, Milton K. Curry Junior High School and Wilmer Hutchins High School, graduating class of 1972. He furthered his education by way of a football scholarship, attending Prairie View A&M and Bishop College. Mark surrendered his life to Christ at an early age. He participated in many ministries at Salem Institutional Baptist Church, including Sunday school, BTU, Youth Choir, Ambassadors for Christ, Galilee Griggs Youth Congress and special annual programs, such as Easter and Christmas. During his adolescent years, Mark assisted his father, Deacon Horace Wheeler, Jr., as caretaker for Salem Church. He learned the skills to paint walls, mop and buff floors, empty trash, Windex windows and much more. Mark believed in doing a job well, and Salem was the start. As an adult, he served as a youth coach for Salem’s basketball team and bragged about their victories. Mark worked numerous jobs in the metroplex. He worked for the City of Dallas, where Horace Wheeler, Jr., again was his boss. He ventured out on his own and became an entrepreneur, having started his own businesses: Independent Trucking and MW Accessories. He later worked for Dr. Pepper and Wonder Bread, but the job with the most stability was with Dallas Independent School District, where he worked as a painter. He later became a driver for Food and Child Nutrition Services, a job that he dearly loved. How do you describe Mark Anthony Wheeler, Sr.? You describe him as a loving father and grandfather; a fun uncle; a patriarch to cousins; a dedicated friend; but most of all a true cowboy. We will miss the smiles, bragging, pep talks, and leisure time on the ranch. He is preceded in death by his father, Horace Wheeler, Jr. He leaves to cherish his wonderful memories, his wife, Janise D. Wheeler; two sons, Mark Anthony Jr. and Zewayne; his mother, Geraldine Wheeler; four grandchildren; one sister, Shirley Wheeler; two brothers, Horace Wheeler III and Reginald Dwayne Wheeler; two aunts, Jean Wheeler Crayton and Brenda Wheeler Mitchell; one uncle, Zenas Mitchell; cousins, Clementine Brown and Ellen Doris Laury; and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
