Obituary of Ollie V Kennedy

Mrs. Ollie Velma Woods Kennedy was born in Ben Wheeler on March 13, 1919, to the parentage of Frank and Willie Woods. She was one of eighteen children, fifteen preceded her in death along with her parents and husband. She accepted Christ at an early age and attended Prairie Creek C.M.E. Church. In 1945 she joined The St. John Missionary Baptist Church, Dallas, TX, where she was a Deaconess on Deacon Board B and a member of the Joanna Williams Bible Class. She was educated in the Prairie Creek Community High School, Ben Wheeler, TX and received her Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree from The University of Southern California, Los Angeles, CA, in Education. She began her teaching career in Canton, Texas. In 1942 she married the love of her life Vernor Kennedy, who was serving in the Armed Forces. After completing his military service, they moved to Dallas Texas and she was employed by the Dallas Independent School District. Her teaching career spanned over 40 years. She was active in her community where she was a dedicated Elections Clerk for many years. She was a member of Oak Cliff Community Awareness. She was also a member of the Court of Calanthe Order of Eastern Star. She leaves to cherish her memories two sisters, Gladys Michaels, Ben Wheeler, Texas, Pinkie Hopkins, Los Angeles, CA, and one brother, Frank Woods, Jr., Ben Wheeler, TX and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
