Please share a memory of Jessie to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Obituary of Jessie Glaspie ~~Mrs. Jessie Langley Glaspie (or for some, Jessie Lee, Mama, or G-Mama) would like to let you know that her work here is done. She fought the good fight, finished her race, kept the faith and is now enjoying her crown of righteousness. She is blissfully in the presence of her Lord; her loving husband, H.D.; parents, George & Bertha (Anderson) Langley; sister & brother, Mollie & George; and loved ones she has not seen in a long time, in a place where music, laughter, and love are everlasting. She left detailed instructions for her children, Michael (Janice) and Jessica; grandchildren, Tamara (Faron), Michael, Jr., Marcus, Patrick, Jr. and Stephen; sisters-in-love, Edna Langley, Ione Greer, and Gloria Glaspie; and a host of loved ones to celebrate her completed mission here, and to do so with excellence, as she would expect nothing less. Jessie was born in Marshall, Texas, the first of George & Bertha’s three children. She accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Galilee Baptist Church of Marshall. Jessie’s passion for learning was also apparent very early. Her thirst for knowledge led her to earn a Bachelor’s degree in Education at Bishop College in Marshall, Texas, where she found love in the person of H. D… a union that lasted 53 years until his passing in 1999. She continued her studies in the Master’s of Education program at Prairie View A&M University. Jessie devoted 45 years of her life to education – teaching in East & West Texas, Tyler, and Wilmer Hutchins Public Schools – not only touching her students in the classroom, but also teaching by example to everyone she encountered. She had a way of making the world and those around her better than when she found them. As long as she was physically able, she was active in public service and received several accolades. For years, Jessie served tirelessly at Tyler Parks & Recreation and the Dallas YWCA. She was a devoted member of The Links, Top Ladies of Distinction, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. and Good Street Baptist Church. She worked hard all of her life and gave all she had until the very end, making a difference in the lives of many. On November 2, 2017, after a life of adventure and service, God gave Jessie rest. Today we celebrate the blessed life of Jessie. We remember her laugh, her energy, her passion for life (and clothes, and hats, and Cadillacs) and love for her family, friends and all people. We invite you to join us and celebrate her legacy together.
