Obituary of Eva Zee McGensey

Please share a memory of Eva to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Eva Zee McGensey was born January 9, 1921, to the union of John and Lucy Harris in Henderson, Texas. She graduated from Excelsior High School and also attended Texas College. She obtained her cosmetology license from the Madam Coleman Beauty School in Dallas, Texas. After receiving her license, she returned to Henderson, where she worked as a hairstylist for many years. She later worked for the Safeway Corporation for 25+ years, until retirement.

Eva was a dedicated, proud member of Magnolia Church, C.M.E. in Dallas, Texas. She was the trusted Treasurer for the church for over 30 years. She was also a stewardess and enjoyed singing in the choir every Sunday. She would often remind her family to give their time and talents to the lord, if not it would surely be taken away from you. In her leisure, she enjoyed gardening and homemaking. Known as “Mama” to many, she played a key role in the lives of so many individuals, outside of her own children.

Eva McGensey departed from this life on August 24, 2020. She was preceded in death by Joe McGensey (husband), Paige Wright (husband), John Harris (brother), Orell Harris-Sample (sister), Lorene Harris (sister), Eva Joe Wright (daughter), Brenda McGensey (daughter), Wendy McGensey (daughter), Amber Ayers (grand-daughter) and Seth Lawson (grandson). She was one of four children born to the late John and Lucy Harris and was the beloved wife of Joe McGensey for 30 years.

Eva will forever be remembered by her beloved children: Patsy Howard and Shannon Lawson (Selwyn), treasured grandchildren Dr. Russell Singleton, Kenneth Singleton, Angela Thornburgh (George), Dr. Sabrina McCullough, Eddie McGensey, Deldren McGensey, Jason Mosley (LaPorsche), Rodney Ayers (Tamika), Saul Lawson and Sean Lawson; and a host of great-grandchildren. She will be missed by countless other family members and friends, all who were blessed to know her.

Eva touched the lives of many people with her smile and generosity. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, all the way to the end.
