He married the love of his life Sarah Jeanette Stanton on April 8 , 1964 . After several starter jobs this trailblazer went to work for Ben E Keith in 1968 . While climbing the ladder of success on his fulltime job of 35 years , Sammy’s burning desire to own his own business and help others was realized. This hardworking country boy ended up owning several businesses including a cab company , body shop , feed store and car lot . He was also a caring and compassionate landlord . But his family shared his heart with his other loves his music and his farm . In the early 70’s he formed a band called Sammy and the Jumping Jacks where he played drums . He enjoyed telling stories about his band days and opening up for blues singers like B.B King and Bobby Blue Bland . While he loved music , he was still a country boy at heart and his farm gave him much joy . His son , grandsons and neighborhood boys were also farmhands from time to time . His favorite song was I’m On The Battlefield For My Lord. He was a member of Cedar Crest Cathedral CME for over 40 years and served faithfully until his illness left him homebound .
