Obituary of Allen A Hackett

Allen Anthony Hackett was born on November 1, 1952, in Tyler, Texas to Gladys Hawkins Spencer and Mathis Cunning Hackett. He had the luxury to be raised not only in Tyler, but by way of Watts, California where he attended John C. Fremont in California, Emmet Scott in Tyler and studied at Richland College in Dallas, Texas. He was a devout Christian raised in Shady Grove Baptist Church. He was married to Rachel Hackett and to this union a daughter was born. Allen was a lover of blues, jazz and gospel music. No one could deny his love for the arts, music, poetry, history and writing. Allen was a flutist, a bongo player, and an all-around instrument player. He loved playing in drum circles. He was very crafty in making wooden flutes and building model cars. Of course, you can’t deny his entrepreneur spirit when he moved back to California to marry his wife and begin to flourish in life, living his dream. “Watts Towers” was a spiritual place to him. He played music there for about 40 years with the “Will Rogers Park Drum Circle.” His daughter’s name is on the magic wall. He knew his purpose and from that he owned two businesses “A+ Zips Communications.” He was breaking records and setting boundaries for black owners. Allen migrated back to Texas to get in touch with his roots, family and love for his community. He had a strong desire to see us win as a family. He was a member at Heartline Ministries in Dallas, Texas. He loved his children and grandchildren. He was very adamant on teaching the boys all about their culture, history, music, family and how to be a great example of what a man should be. Allen loved those kids! If he wanted nothing else, he wanted us to know our purpose and power. Hackett, R.C. Hackett, and Erlene Timmons; nephews, Londell and Gary L. Black. Allen leaves to cherish his memories: his wife, Rachel Hackett; daughter, Torea Hackett; son, Quindon M. Hill; grandkids, Clayton Johnson, Brenton Johnson, Alana Spaulding, and Lea-Zhahanae Hill; siblings, Antoinette Hackett, Phyllis Black, Jerry Spencer, Jerry Francis, and Katie Price; nieces and nephews, VirLinda Stanton, Monique Williams, La-Vaughn Alexander, Antoine Hackett, Kimberly Hackett, Shemika Black; mother-in-law, Woodie Lattimore; and a host of many great-nieces and great-nephews.
