Obituary of Opal M Darden-Echols

Opal Morris Darden Echols was born on August 1, 1943, in Canton, Texas.  She was the second eldest of nine children born to the parentage of the late Lenard Earl Shamlin and Corene Doris Ponder Shamlin. Opal was reared in a great Christian home in Canton, Texas, Van Zandt County. She professed her hope in Christ at an early age at the Promise Land C.M.E Church.

 

Opal received her education from Wynne Elementary School in Canton, Texas and graduated from Cartwright High School in Wills Point, Texas, class of 1961. Shortly after graduation, Opal moved to Dallas, Texas, where she began her career as a Nanny.

 

On October 25, 1997, Opal met and married the love of her life, Ollis Bernard Echols.

 

Opal united with the Community United Methodist Church and served there faithfully until her health failed.  She loved her church and was a dedicated member of the choir.

 

Opal had a great love for children. She was the Nanny to several families over her career of 35 years. She also, worked in the home health field for many years

 

On Friday, January 8, 2021, Opal slipped away to be with her heavenly Father as she slept. She has joined the loved ones who preceded her in death: father, Lenard Earl Shamlin; mother, Corene Doris Shamlin; sister, Corene Doris Shamlin Newton; brother, Gerald Shamlin; and brother-in-law, Rev. J. R. Mosley.

 

Opal Morris Shamlin Darden Echols leaves to cherish her precious memories: her husband Ollis Bernard Echols; three step-children Sonya Echols, Jonathan Echols, Eugene Echols. She also leaves to share in her memories, three step-grandchildren; two sisters, Bertha Mosley, Julia Darden (Eddie); four brothers, Lenard Shamlin, Jr. (Shelia), George Chris Shamlin I (Catherine), Lawrence Shamlin, Sr. and Barry Shamlin; a special niece Stephanie Cheatum (Kenri); and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and special friends including the Bennett and Agritelley families and others.

 

Opal was deeply loved by her family and friends and will be greatly missed by all.
