Obituary of Cecil Hurd
~~"To everything there is a season and a time to every purpose under the Heavens"
– Ecclesiastes 3:1
Cecil was the first of four sons born to parents Lafayette Cecil Hurd (deceased) and Helen Emory Hurd of Dallas, Texas. Cecil was preceded in death by his Grandparents, Cecil and Helen C. Emory and Leon and Pearlie Hurd-Johnson.
In his early years, Cecil attended Mayo Kindergarten, under Principal Mrs. T.E. Crump, Administrator and Mrs. Minnie Nelson-Metoyer as well as Fredrick Douglas School. He also attended St. Mary of Carmel School and later received his high school education from Bishop Dunn and South Oak Cliff High Schools, where he graduated in 1973. He furthered his education at Texas Southern University in Houston, Texas and while there he joined and was an active member of Grove Phi Grove Fraternity and the Ocean of Soul Marching Band. Also, as an adult he remained a member of the college alumni. Cecil had a love for numbers, data & shapes and was known as a mathematician.
Cecil confessed Christ at an early age. He was raised in Salem Institutional Baptist Church and baptized at the age of twelve (12). He was also confirmed with St. James Catholic Church. Cecil loved studying the bible and worshipping the Lord was his priority. In January 2015, Cecil became a member of Oak Cliff Bible Fellowship and continued to embrace all aspects of his spiritual growth.
Professionally he was employed with CMS Hartzell Manufacturing services as Quality Assurance manager and was also a licensed professional realtor with Century 21, Judge Fite Company.
Cecil loved his family dearly and was always taking time to care for his family & friends, for his passion was to help everyone he knew. He was not only a cherished father and grandfather, he was a beloved uncle to his many nieces & nephews. They always knew that they could call on him at anytime for guidance, a word of encouragement, advice or simply to say "l love you".
Even during his courageous struggle and failing health, he never complained.
