Obituary of Doris Helen Foerster

Doris Helen Land-Foerster, of Dallas TX, at the age of 79 years old, succumbed to a lengthy illness on March 16, 2021.

Doris was born on November 17, 1941 in Tyler Texas and was the first of thirteen children born to the late Gladys Ollie May Griffin and was raised as an only child by her aunt, Mary Lee Simpson in Tyler, TX.

Doris devoted her life to her children often working multiple jobs to make sure her kids were provided for.  She had a passion for dolls and loved the blues.  Although she only had an 8th grade education, she was able to become a homeowner (twice) and a business owner.  She operated her own restaurant and blues club where she met her husband Dennis, to whom she was married for the past 33 years.

Doris was there to support her family in both good and challenging times. Anyone who knew her knew how kind and nurturing she was. Her greatest joy in life was being a mother, a grandmother and a “mom” to everyone she met.

Doris will be lovingly remembered by her husband, Dennis Foerster of Dallas, TX; Three Children, Steven, Darren and Ronnie Land of Dallas, TX; six sisters: Freddie (Willie) Douglas of Aurora, CO, Necia and Nettie Griffin of Clovis, NM, Betty Carreras of Oakland, CA, Rebecca (Mitch) Wood of Lubbock, TX, Denise Griffin of Austin, TX; her Aunt Jean Singletary Benton of Lufkin, TX; her grandchildren as well as numerous, nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives and friends.

She is preceded in death by her daughter Janice Land, her mother, Mary Lee Simpson, her biological parents, Melvin and Gladys Ollie May Griffin; Five brothers, JC, Charles, Gary, Aeron and Ernest Griffin; and two Sisters, Lorene and Charlene Griffin.
