Obituary of Joyce Elaine Clerk
Joyce Clerk of Lancaster, Texas passed away on March 10, 2021. Joyce was born in St. Louis, Missouri on July 7, 1963. She moved to Texas and made it her home in the late 1980’s. She graduated from Metro Academy High School in St. Louis, Missouri and continued her education earning a bachelor’s degree from Lincoln College in St. Louis, Missouri.
Joyce worked for Geico for many years and in the retail field for most of her career. She was the manager for several stores including: Lane Bryant, Avenue and August Max for Women. While working at a retail men’s clothing store, she would highlight her salesmanship by indicating that she sold 32 shirts to one customer in a single sale. She had an exceptional work ethic and believed in “getting the job done; no excuses/no exceptions”. Her most recent position before her illness was inventory contract work which afforded her an opportunity to travel all over the United States.
She enjoyed bowling, reading and especially studying her bible and working in the church. Joyce joined Golden Gate Missionary Baptist Church in Dallas, Texas and became a faithful, dedicated member who developed lasting friendships and who loved her church family. She was a member of the choir, Circle Leader for her D.B. Hickman Women’s Group, and a member of the church’s Joseph E. Lockridge scholarship fund committee.
Joyce is preceded in death by her father, Joseph Clerk, her mother, V. Lane and five siblings (Rodney, Clara, Johnny, Alicia and Lisa).
She leaves to cherish her memories: her stepmom, Shelley Marie Clerk of St. Louis, MO, her brother and sisters: James Lane of Midlothian, TX; Stacey, Joseph, Marcus, Keith, Dion, Eva, Jackie, Marilyn, Carla, and Tonia all of St. Louis, MO; and many nieces and nephews, and other family and friends. She also leaves her devoted Golden Gate Missionary Baptist Church family including Rev. and Mrs. Vincent T. Parker, and her special lifetime friends: Bearta Thompson, Susan R., and Michelle Harris.
