Obituary of Irene Williams Henderson

Obituary of Irene Henderson ~~Irene (Williams) Henderson was born to the parentage of George Williams, Sr., and Frances Cotton on February 5, 1929, in Homer. Louisiana. The family and siblings moved to Dallas from Louisiana when Irene was 9 months of age. Irene was baptized at the Greater New Zion Baptist Church under the pastorage of the late William Lofton. She attended B.F. Darrell Elementary and Booker T. Washington. After graduation from high school, she attended Wiley College in Marshall, Texas, where she was the drum majorette he freshman year. She became a member of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated in November of 1949. She graduated from Wiley College in 1951 with a Bachelor of Science degree in secondary education. On June 27, 1953 she was united in holy matrimony to Floyd E. Henderson in Dallas, Texas, at the Greater New Zion Baptist Church under the pastorage of Rev. A.V. Voice. From this union, two sons were born: Kenneth E. and Kevin E. Henderson. After arriving in Youngstown, the family immediately joined Rev. Lonnie Simcoin’s church and became active in her sorority. She later secured employment with the Welfare Department in Youngstown, Ohio. Five years later, they moved to Cleveland when she transferred to the Department of Human Services, where she remained for 30 years, retiring with outstanding service of the department. Irene entered into eternal life on August 13, 20117. She is preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Gertha Harrison and Helen Francis Menafee and two brothers, T.R. Williams and Aster Williams. She leaves to cherish fond memories, two sons, Kenneth Henderson of Dallas, Texas, and Kevin Henderson and daughter-in-law, Kristine of Crowley, Texas, 2 grandsons, Samuel and Daniel of Crowley, Texas ; brother, George Williams Jr. of Dallas, Texas and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
