Obituary of James Lewis Collins

James Lewis Collins, Jr. entered into eternal rest October 16, 2019 after a long struggle with chronic medical conditions. James Collins, Jr. was born to the parents of Lela Beatrice Hartman and James Lewis Collins, Sr. on February 29, 1940 in Dallas, Texas. He was a graduate of Booker T. Washington Technical High School. He attended Huston-Tillotson College (now Huston-Tillotson University) in Austin, Texas and went on to further his education at Bishop College (now Paul Quinn College) in Dallas, Texas. He worked previously at the Dallas Public Library, Neiman Marcus, and also entered the hospitality industry where he retired. James Collins, Jr. was a devoted member of the Arlington Park First Baptist Church where he was a dedicated participant in the Sunday School Lesson programs and a member of the Sanctuary Choir. James Collins, Jr. was preceded in death by his mother, Lela Beatrice Hartman Collins, his father James Collins, Sr., and loving stepmother Ruby Mae Dean Collins. He is survived by his brother and best friend Phillip Earl Collins, twin stepsisters Linda Diane Collins Boatwright and Glenda Denise Collins Redd, and a host of cousins, nieces and nephews: Fannie Mae Curry, Kim Curry Harrison, Charlie Phillip Curry, Peter Byrd, Clara Hartman Cole, Patricia Hartman Bell, Joyce Elaine Tate, Gerald Tate, Robert Cole, Janice Cole, Princella Cole Pack, Laura Kathleen Bruton, Cecelia Bruton, Thelma Jackson, Doris Jean Hall, Ruthie LeAnn Sally, and their immediate families.
