Obituary of Lawrence Slatter II
Lawrence Slatter II was born December 24, 1944 in Allenhurst, Georgia to
Lawrence and Lucille Slatter. He departed this life on January 27, 2023. Lawrence graduated from Cook County Training School prior to earning BS and MS degrees in Electrical Engineering at Tuskegee University. While at Tuskegee he met his future wife, Anne Jones, and participated in acts of social justice like the march from Selma to Montgomery and the 1968 student-lead drive to improve the campus conditions.
Lawrence and Anne married while in college and later headed to Indiana University to earn master’s degrees in business and Nursing, respectively. He had a successful career at the Xerox Corporation that spanned 32 years. Lawrence had an illustrious career, but always found time for the things that mattered most to him: family, friends, and golf. He and Anne had three children Alana, Alethea, and Lawrence III, and gained bonus kids once Benjamin Walter came to live with the family from Switzerland.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence and Lucille Slatter, brothers Clarence Allen Osgood, Willie Charles Slatter; sister Bettye Jean Holt and a special aunt Berdie Osgood.
He leaves to cherish his memory: devoted wife of 55 years, Anne Slatter; children, Alana Slatter, Alethea Slatter, Lawrence Slatter, III, Benjamin Walter (Liang); father-in-law, John Thomas; brother-in-law, Sylvester Jones (Geanette); grandchildren, Elina and Sophia Walter; a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, other relatives and friends.
The services will be held on Saturday, February 25, 2023 at 11:00 am at Hamilton Park United Methodist Church, 11881 Schroeder Rd, Dallas, Texas 75243. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Tuskegee University.
