Cynric Suldon Hudson
With the Heart of His Father
By Glo Dean Baker (05-05-23)
He arrived as a bundle of joy.
The second Son of Samuel William Hudson, III and Henry Suldon Hudson.
Looking like a bright light reflecting the image of his father.
Sam the Fourth came before him, the loving first born,
Named after his father,
Carrying the legacy of the Hudson line.
His oldest Sister, Lelalois, named after both Grandmothers,
Was blessed with mystical eyes and an exotic face.
The beautiful Samzie, was not only named after her Daddy,
She imaged into the female version of him.
Then came the twins, Tracy and Stacie.
Blessed with hair so beautiful that a Proline Company
Featured them in ads around the world.
They were unique and prolific as their birth.
Frenchella, the beloved, pretty Baby Girl,
Cherished by her Daddy as his Chocolate Princess.
Endowed with rich, vibrant skin, graced with
The attribute of melanin.
“Black don’t crack.”
And the finale, William Henry, whose name was a no brainer.
Like his name,
He had the collective powers of both his Mother and Father.
But Cynric, Cynric was special because he had the heart of his father
He was the ‘Son who Stayed.’
There are so many unique memories of Cynric.
Working for Sam, under the Title of Administrative Assistant,
There was so much involved in that title.
I was the one who set up Sam’s office, filing system,
Who processed the paper work, typed and filed bills.
I was the office organizer, Secretary, goffer and general helper.
But most importantly I was the one who loved his family.
Henry and I were so close.
I marveled at her amazing skills.
And we became parters as she managed his campaigns
And became a dynamic fund raiser.
All of this while raising eight children.
Henry, Mother of Eight.
But Cynric was the one who had the heart of his Father.
Cynric was the Son who Stayed.
Sam and Cynric was pictured as a dynamic duo
In the Austin American Statesman Newspaper as a little boy.
Sam brought him to the House floor.
They were both clad in striking White Suits.
Handsome,
A picturesque image of a loving
Father and Son,
African American familial superiority.
The essence of their faces
reflected a commitment,
A bond that would not be broken for Cynric
Had the heart of his Father,
Cynric was the Son who Stayed.
He had the the wonderful loquacious banter of his Daddy.
He could dialogue on any subject.
He was fun to be around.
And like his father, he was was always there to lend a helping hand
To family and friends.
He was someone you could depend on.
And he loved., as he was loved,
Especially by the women.
He was one who loved his neighbor as himself.
He found fatherly love in the birth of his daughter,
Cynita Revelon, of whom he cherished.
He was a good brother to his siblings.
And most of all, he was a devoted son.
He was a traveling buddy with his Daddy.
Upon his becoming a young man,
Sam took him on a male rights to passage trip to Belize.
This male pecking order escapade did not come without Controversy.
The important thing was, it was their special time.
Sam vicariously relived his youth through the antics of his second son.
They became running buddies, as two hearts of gold.
Cynric pledged in his dedicated heart to live with his Father and Mother.
And he was there.
He was there with every move.
From house to house.
He was there at every holiday..
He barbecued.
He entertained with his Mother and Father.
He drove them to restaurants,
Doctor Appointments and any other needed tasks.
He helped his Father research, he was his legal assistant.
In in times when Sam needed protection from unseemly forces,
Cynric was his Guard and Protector.
He was a caretaker for his Mother and Father.
He also was there for Stacie,
The Sister who stayed.
Dino nucleic acid, DNA.
Is the inherited markers from our Ancestors.
We are, who we come from or as my Great Grandmother said,
“What’s in the blood don’t rot.”
Cynric had the heart of his Father.
The kindness, the fondness, the wonderfulness
And the weakness.
For some reason, the markers of our ventricular makeup
Can manifest into symptoms that propel us
Into a spiritual dimension of our celestial home.
It is the Will of the Creator.
Ours is not to question why?
One year ago the heart of Sam gave way to enter a higher plain
And now, Cynric, with the heart of his Father
Beats once again in synonymity with his Ancestors.
Cynric, with the heart of his Father,
Rejoices, although we lament.
For the Son who Stayed
Has left.

I will cherish you attending my Wake Forest University School of Law graduation in 2021 and making sure Momma and Daddy were in attendance. I will miss our 2am calls during my 24-hour study sessions always leading me to finish strong as I balanced being a full-time working executive, wife and mother. I remember how you expressed that you were not surprised when I shared I graduated summa cum laude. That is who you were - encouraging, uplifting and genuinely happy to see others achieve their dreams. We will keep your trademark Henry of 8 alive and dutifully take good care of Momma. We will cover Riverlyn in love with our affections and support her forever. Please give my love to and hug Daddy for me in heaven. Love you forever big bro from your little sister, Tracie.

Dear Hudson Family
We pray for peace, joy, and comfort for you and your family in your time of grief, as we share a very precious gift! Cynric was introduced to our family by my sister (Renyta Frank, Riverlyn's mother), almost five years before their daughter was born. We share in your fond memories and memories of laughter of him.
A Prayer for Riverlyn
(speaking from the heart of Renyta and Cynric):
"Creator God, You knit our daughter together in the womb; before we even knew she existed, You were fashioning the cells that make her who she is today. Help her to praise You when she looks in the mirror, to see the beauty of Your workmanship, and to celebrate Your creativity (Psalm 139:13-16)."

With heartfelt love to Henry Lee, Sam IV, Lelalois, Samzie, Stacie, Tracie, Samaria, William, and families.
Dear Cynric,
One day, a couple of months ago, in March, I answered my phone and heard, "Hi Aunt Camellia!" I gasped in disbelief but it was, in fact, you!!! Hearing your voice Cynric, was truly music to my ears!! I cherish the two conversations we enjoyed and how we laughed hilariously out loud!
When you were born, in 1969, I was a rising freshwoman and on my way to Mills College. I saw you grow into the sweetest little boy and you had an alto sounding voice that was uniquely your own. I loved playing with you, all my nieces & nephews, and doing fun things with yall.
By the time I started coming home to visit with my 3 children in the 1990's, you were a young man in your 20's. Maurice, Ella, and Malinda loved playing with you--Big Cousin Cynric and cousins all. I remember you as a master organizer of many things, especially road trips. You got us in a caravan of 4 or 5 cars and we drove to Dinosaur Valley State Park where we walked in the footsteps of dinosaurs! On another trip, we caravaned to Turner Falls in Oklahoma where my kids got to swim in a waterfall lagoon for the first time in their lives!
Then, there was the time we came home in the middle of a heat wave! One night, it was too hot to sleep. . . following your lead, everyone bolted out the door, into the backyard, and jumped in the pool!! It was 105 at Midnight!!! That was a night of grrreat fun, too! You ordered atleast 12 pizzas which we ate while playing in the pool, under the stars, into the wee-hours of the morning. I turned into a giggly little kid along with you LOL, and everybody else LOLOLOLOL! ! ! Cheers now, to looking out at your star brilliantly lighting up the sky :)
Loving you eternally,
Aunt Camellia

Spoken comments during Cynric Hudson’s funeral service.
The importance of human life becomes vivid and emotional when you see a family member younger than yourself pass away.
But there is a better land that the Lord has made that awaits all who love Him. Our job that he has commanded us is “Hear ye o Israel, love the Lord your God with all your might, all your heart, and all your soul.”
I’m going to miss Cynric’s telephone calls to check on me. 4 years of separation in age seems like a huge distance when growing up. He looked like a little kid to me. But we became closer as adults, and I appreciate him coming out to our health talks at UNT Dallas; he would always encourage me and my kids. He became more than a cousin to me; he became a friend.
We all have trials. You know I am a physician. People say that physicians are successful, but physicians have tough times too. And Cynric would call me up and he would say “Hey man how you doing?” And I really appreciated that.
I know it could have been me today instead of Cynric. Because I work as a gastroenterologist and during this COVID19 pandemic I would have to stick scopes in people mouths, and people would cough on me all the time. So I’m sure I caught COVID many times. When I couldn’t make it around the track, I knew it was COVID and was treated then and several other times. Cynric went too soon. I don’t know what to say. But as a physician I’ll make myself available to help anyone here. I have a practice with two nurse practitioners. Just call me.

To our dearest and beloved brother and Uncle Cynric,
You will always be in our hearts and spirits. You will be missed beyond measure. We can see your wonderful and infectious smile in our reflections and thoughts on a daily basis. Your voice and laugh play as a welcome and comforting soundtrack in our minds. You made us laugh with your quick wit/humor and brought so much joy to all of us. We will always cherish your words of wisdom for William and Elias encouraging them to aspire to greatness in academics, sports and career-wise with your quote, "Man, William and Elias you all can do anything in this world with God. So, go do it." We miss you tremendously and thankful you are with God in heaven. Rest easy Cynric and be at peace. Love you forever Barry, Tracie, William and Elias.

As a close childhood friend of Samaria's, Cynric became my unofficial "Big Brother." He was so sweet, kind, funny, and protective. My fondest memory of Cynric occurred when he took us to a concert. In true Cynric fashion, he decided to launch a free-style rap that ended with, "They fear me!" From that point forward, it became a catchphrase that we'd often say when we had to invoke a spirit of courageousness. Thank you for being such a great, lovable, and kind person Cynric. I know that you are with God and Mr. Hudson protecting all of your loved ones. I'm not saying goodbye...I will say "Until we meet again in heaven..." Love Always, Attorney Amber H. Baker

Dear Cynric,
I miss the nightly and daily calls food, medicine and anything, Momma and I needed. Always there to help and a partner in times b of need, caring Daddy and Momma. Ceaselessly, dedicated to our family. For ten months Day in day out, always meeting the needs of others. We started, this journey in 2021 and now you have rest. So well deserved. There is quietness and emptiness that is left. Where you once inhabited. Rest well my brother. With love Momma and Stacie.

May Cynric rest in peace. I send my love and energy to my cousins and Aunt Henry. The spirit energy that we carry as human beings does not die. I believe it can only transform, human life force is too powerful to do anything else. Into what I do not know but I believe Cynric is still present with us as a new form of energy. My fondest memories of him were as a child coming home to visit Uncle Bubba, Aunt Henry and all my fun cousins. At their home Cynric was like the big big big brother I didn’t have. Calm, collected…grown man! I couldn’t imagine being a grown up at the time, while William and I were busy trying to be cool kids. Cynric was a model for me as a man, and now having grown up myself I understand the role he played in the lives of his sisters, brothers, and parents. Big brother, family leader. Role model. I believe he is still with us, present in every thought and word. He will live within us forever.

I will always remember how warm and inviting Cynric was. Even though we did not have a close relationship, our interactions were memorable, one of them happening just recently on March 28th completely out of the blue - he had accidentally sent me a video over text that he intended to send to someone else (his physical therapist I believe), and it was of him working on walking again, with assistance from what appears to be two other medical professionals. He then called me the same day explaining the mistake in sending the video, and we ended up talking a while, catching up on life and he expressed how excited he was to share his recovery progress after having the stroke. I still have the video and the voicemail he left. You could hear in his voice how kind of a person he was, so hearing his passing so soon after just speaking was a shock to say the least. However it brings me comfort in knowing he’s in good company in heaven now. Rest in peace Cynric.
