OBITUARY




Wilkins “Rick” Jones Jr. was born on September 18, 1947 to Wilkins Jones Sr. and Clara Vera Jones in Dallas, Texas. He received his formal education at Lincoln High School (Class of 66) in Dallas, Texas, where he participated in ROTC. Rick furthered his education at the University of Texas at Arlington, and graduated with an Associate degree in Electric Engineering.




He accepted Christ as his Savior at Munger Avenue Baptist Church at an early age. He was a dedicated and devoted to the church and worked in many auxiliaries. Rick served as Trustee Chair, Deacon board serving as vice-president, Sunday Church School (Men’s Bible Class 1&2), President of the Senior Choir, member of the Joshua, Male and Centennial Chorus, Men’s Movement/Brotherhood, Vacation Bible School, BTU. Other committees: Heritage/Archives, Outreach, Benevolence. Also, served in other program and church leadership roles: EDGES, Family Life Center Board, Finance, Church Treasurer, Maintenance Supervisor, Pastor’s Appreciation, Homecoming/Church Anniversary events.




On October 25, 1975, Rick united in holy matrimony to Bess Jones, and they remained faithfully together for thirty-seven years.




Rick was employed with Xerox as an Account Manager and retired after 29 years of service. His faith in God was the cornerstone of his life, infusing every interaction with warmth and compassion. Through his steadfast service and tireless work, Rick made it his mission to make the lives of others easier, embodying love, care, and selflessness in every task he undertook.




He leaves to cherish his memory and is survived by his sister, Juna Jones-Moore (Greg Moore, brother-in-law); daughter, Sherilyn Jones, son, Wilkins Jones III; nephews, Gregory Moore II (Lorena Moore, wife) and Preston Moore. Also, grandchildren, Richard Greagor II, Michael Greagor (Antranette Greagor, Wife), and Crystal Greagor, great-grandchildren, great nieces, and nephews including an enormous number of cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents Wilkins Jones, Sr. and Clara Jones; son, Micah Jones, daughter, Leecier Jones-Greagor, children’s mother, Bess Jones; and grandparents, Fannie Smith, A. Preston and Amanda Jones.
