Obituary of John Dell Holyfield Sr
John Dell Holyfield, age 92, of DeSoto, Texas, passed away peacefully on November 17, 2024. He was born on June 6, 1932, in Homer, Louisiana, to the parentage of Bennie Holyfield Sr. and Louisa Mills.
As a child, John attended Mount OBIC CME Church and later Center Springs CME Church. He was educated in Homer, Louisiana, and during his senior year of high school, he was drafted into the United States Army. John served honorably in the Korean War before being discharged and returning to Homer.
After his military service, John relocated to Dallas, Texas, where he married Erma Joe, and to their union, two daughters, Debra High and Catherine Holyfield, were born. Both Erma and Catherine preceded him in death.
John later married Earlene Holyfield, and their union was blessed with twin sons, John Holyfield Jr. and Ron Holyfield. Earlene also preceded him in death.
In 1996, John married Rose Holyfield, who brought one daughter, Shannon Thomas-Muse, into their union.
John worked at Tom Thumb, where he retired in 2000. Later, he dedicated his time to his community as a crossing guard, helping to ensure the safety of countless children.
John is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Rose Holyfield; two sons, John Jr. (Rhonda) and Ron Holyfield of Dallas, TX; and five daughters: Debra High (Cleophus) of Mexia, TX, Shannon Thomas-Muse (Marquis) Dale Holyfield (Theron Wayne), Terry, Timber Carter of Dallas, TX.
He is also survived by four siblings: Pastor Wallace Holyfield Sr. (Ruth) of DeSoto, Texas, Joe Lee Holyfield, Bennie Wayne Holyfield of Louisiana, and sister Avalyn Smith of Louisiana.
John was preceded in death by five siblings: Theron Holyfield (Jackie), Leon Holyfield, Louise Holyfield, Lillie Mae, and Varrie.
John leaves behind a legacy of love through his 10+ grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who cherished him deeply.
