Obituary of George Walker
George Edward Walker was born on March 20, 1930 to the parentage of Still Walker and Annie Bell Nation Walker in Lockhart, Louisiana. Grandmother Millie Gosby Nation, Aunt Gertrude Ford and his brother Eugene Walker precede him in death.
He attended public school in Lockhart and was a student of the Louisiana Independent School District.
At an early age he professed Christ and was baptized at Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Lockhart, Louisiana, and later moving to El Dorado, Arkansas.
There he met and married May Bell Morris. He united with the Union Mission Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. Greesby Cooks where he served as a faithful member. After moving to Dallas, he joined Macedonia Baptist Church. Then afterwards he united with St. Paul Baptist Church where he served faithfully as a deacon for thirty-three years. Later he joined with Greater New Vision Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Travis L. Walker. There he served as a deacon, sung in the choir, attended prayer meetings and was an active participant in Sunday school until death.
Brother Walker loved the Lord. His favorite songs were “Down through the Years” and “I Am Bound for Mt. Zion Way out on a Hill, If Anybody Make It, Surely I Will”.
He was a retired contractor from G.W.I.C. Renovation & Repair, Inc. and a very devoted father to his children and wonderful husband to his wife.
He leaves to cherish his memory; a loving and devoted wife, “Mabel”. Four sons, Felton L. Benton (wife Brenda), George Willie Walker (wife Evelyn), Travis Lavell Walker and Lonnie Lee Walker (wife Cheryl). Two daughters, Linda Gail Walker and Brenda Faye Janis. A host of God children, (special connection) Robert Beaty, Catherine Cox and Warren Payne. Sixteen grandchildren, nine great grand-children, two sister- in- laws- Ella Mae Jenkins ( Los Angeles, CA) and Ruth Evelyn Walker (Dallas, Tx.), a very close first cousin-in-law Mary Lou Ford (Urbana, Arkansas) and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
