Obituary of Marcelet Harris

Please share a memory of Marcelet to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Marcelet “Marcie” E. Harris (neé Delley) was born October 1st, 1922 in Greenville TX. She was one of 6 living children born to Herman Cato Delley and Roberta Faye Williams Delley Hunter. The family moved to Terrell, TX and later Dallas. Marcelet was a studious and loving child who joyfully took care of her family. She was raised in the Church of God in Christ and loved the Lord dearly throughout her life. In 1941, she graduated from Lincoln High School, the second black high school in all of Dallas. Her considerate nature and love of caretaking led Marcelet to nursing school. In the 1960s, Marcie moved to Detroit to be closer to the love of her life, O.L. Harris, and her sisters. There she worked as a nurse and social worker. O.L. introduced Marcie to the Seventh-day Adventist faith of which she was a devoted follower. O.L. and Marcie would later marry and give birth to their two daughters, Sharon and Michelle Harris. Together, the couple would move to Rockford, IL where Marcie worked as a mental health counselor for the State of Illinois and finally Dallas, TX. In Dallas, they joined the Dallas First Church of Seventh-day Adventists where Marcie was a dedicated deaconess and volunteer. Marcie and O.L. were together for many years until his death on October 3rd, 2007. Marcelet was full of love, kindness and service. She loved her family, her church and helping those in need. She loved traveling, sewing outfits for her daughters and grandchildren and spending time in her garden. Many knew her as the Silver Fox and loved her ability to light up a room with her brilliant smile and sense of humor. Time with her family and friends was so important and dear to her. She was a living example of unconditional love and forgiveness and will be dearly missed by all who knew her. While she only had two children, there were many she loved and influenced who saw her as their own mother. Marcie was always happy to open her heart and her home to anyone. She leaves behind a long and precious legacy. She is preceded in her death by her mother and father, Roberta and Herman Delley; her siblings Earnestine (Nathaniel) Towns, Lee Delley Sr., Thurmond Delley Sr., and Nadine (Julius) Brown; and her husband, O.L. Harris. She leaves to cherish her memory her sister, Lorraine Graham, her daughters, Sharon Harris and Michelle Harris, her grandchildren, Tony Curtis, Cherice (Johnny) Parramore, Troy King, Maya Clark, Charles Clark III, and Ashley Ray-Harris, her great-grandchildren, Johnny Parramore Jr., Whitney Parramore, Yasmeen King, Kennedy King, Madison King, Troy King Jr., Zane Takats, and Charles “Tyson” Clark IV, her great-great-grandchildren, Javari James Thomas, Adrian Matthew Parramore and Greyson Cole Parramore, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, adopted family and friends.
