Obituary of William D Woods

Please share a memory of William to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Obituary of William Woods William “Danny” Woods, or “Little Boy” as he was nicknamed as a child, was born in Tyler, Texas on September 20, 1928 to Clarence Woods and Castella Rivers. He was known for his hats, fancy cars and high standards. He attended Emmit Scott in Tyler, TX. In 1948, Danny enlisted in the United States Army and fought in active combat in the Korean War. After his military services, he moved to Dallas where he gained employment with Simmons Mattress until retirement. He was baptized at Bethlehem Baptist Church (Tyler, TX) and later became a member of Greater Community First Baptist Church. He also was an active and faithful member of Concord Church Senior Center, where loved playing dominoes, and would often boast about his “pool shark” skills and show off his collection of trophies. Danny was family oriented, although he didn’t like a lot of company, and modeled and instilled good morals and standards for the entire family. He was a lover of jazz, and Miles Davis was his favorite jazz musician. If the television was on, and it usually was, he would be watching sports, Sanford & Son or laughing out loud watching Martin. And you can’t forget about his favorite meal – Kentucky Fried Chicken with potato wedges. As he got older, he was especially thankful for his nieces, Sandra and Sandy Shields, for their unwavering support and love. He also found gratitude in Ms. Patricia Currie, a God-sent angel, for her nurturing commitment to him over the past several years during his declining health. William “Danny” Woods leaves to cherish his memories: sister, Shirley W. Shields of Dallas, TX, sister in law, Gladys Woods of Dallas, TX and namesake William Charles Shields of Lancaster, TX and Ralph the Dog; a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parent’s, two brothers and two sisters.
