Obituary of June Burt
“I can love others, with God’s help, only to the extent that they are truly the focus of my mind, heart, and life: and I can find myself only by forgetting myself. Weathering storms of the love process is the only way to find the rainbows of life.”
June Vernell Carter Burt, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, civic and community servant. She was born October 30, 1941 in Jackson, Tennessee, the first child of the late Zilma and Bernice Houston Carter. She departed this life from her earthly home in Benbrook, TX on February 22 at 12:39 AM after extended and courageous battles with breast cancer and then pancreatic cancer.
Mt. Zion Baptist church was her place of worship as a child. She accepted Christ as her Savior at an early age and was baptized by Rev. Virgil Caldwell, Sr. and became an official active member.
June’s formal public elementary and High School education was in Jackson Tennessee Schools. Upon graduating from Merry High School, Lane College in Jackson, Tennessee, awarded her a Music Scholarship (voice). There she matriculated in 1959.
June was united in Holy Matrimony to Gene E. Burt May 24, 1962 in Henderson, Tennessee and earned a Bachelor of Art Degree in English in 1963. This union was blessed with three children.
For several months, June’s initial employment was with the Sixth Episcopal District of the Christian Methodist Episcopal Church in Atlanta, Georgia before launching her career in education. It began in 1964 as a High School English Instructor at Blackwell High School in Elberton, Georgia with additional duties as “1st. Lady” of St. Mary’s CME Church. There she sang in the choir and worked with the Christian Youth Fellowship. June entire life was devoted to serving God and others while celebrating life and living it to the fullest. The Ageless of Ft. worth was the last of many of the social affiliations.
June’s professional career was primarily in education and was employed in several areas and geographical locations. She worked in the Department of Defense schools at Clark Air Base, in Philippines in 1972-74; Guam Community college 1977-79; Huntington Middle School, Newport News, VA, 1979-82. Beginning in 1983 she was employed by FISD at W.P. Mclean Middle School, the District Professional Support Team and completed her tenure at William James Middle School in 2007.
June’s positive spirit came through in her unique ability to connect with the essence of people in a way that brought out their best. Her warm, pleasant, and positive disposition facilitated caring relationships. She will be greatly missed by those who interacted with her, her family, church family, her friends, co-workers, neighbors, adopted sons and daughters those who love and those who are afraid to love.
June leaves to cherish her precious memory and undying love — her husband Eddie of 53 years plus, two sons Eddie (Madison) of Phoenix, AZ, Julian (Chanil) Iowa Park, TX, one daughter: Denise (Taryn, Taylor, Joshua) Benbrook, TX; one aunt, Helen Deberry, Jackson, TN; one sister Jimmie Hammonds, Ft. Worth, TX, three brothers: Dennis (Oleta), Paul of Jackson, TN; Sidney, of Green Bay, WI. Two Nephews: Demia (Tracy), Young “D”, Atlanta, GA. and a host other loving relatives and many dear friends.
