Obituary of Evelyn Gregory-Hillard
Mrs. Evelyn Gregory Hilliard passed away peacefully in the early morning on February 11, 2016. Evelyn was also affectionately called “Aunt Chuck” by all her nieces, nephews, cousins, and many others. Mrs. Evelyn was born to Mr. Tom Gregory and Mrs. Alberta Lockridge- Gregory on November 15, 1914 in Bremond, Texas.
Mrs. Hilliard accepted Christ at a very early age in Bremond, Texas, and later became a member of Golden Gate Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of her uncle Pastor L.R. Lockridge.
Evelyn lived a good and exciting life as she traveled throughout the United States of America and abroad to Honolulu, Hawaii. Later after relocating to San Antonio, Sister Evelyn united with the New Light Baptist Church to join the usher board. She worked at the San Antonio Country Club for many years as a linen technician before taking early retirement to come back to Dallas, Texas to be the caretaker of her father and mother in July of 1976. Her service as a door keeper for the Lord continued after transitioning back home to serve under the leadership of Reverend C.B.T Smith at Golden Gate Missionary Baptist Church. In lieu of faithfully working at Golden Gate, Evelyn was a well-known caretaker for her family and friends. She honorably served her brother, sisters, friends, and community. Evelyn was a rare jewel. Her life is a testimony for all people to live with faith and selfless love. Surely goodness and mercy has followed her all the days of her life. To God be glory!
Her niece Ada L. Williams and son Adrian Williams were her assigned caretakers in lieu of Potter’s Place, Assistant Living, and the Villa at Mountain View. Mrs. Evelyn Gregory Hilliard was preceded in death by her husband Wilbur Hilliard, her father Tom Gregory, her mother Alberta Gregory, her sisters Lueada Gipson- Louis, Mildred Savala, Bernice Johnson, and brother L.T. Gregory. She leaves to cherish her memory many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
