Obituary of Daisy L Sidney-Davis

Please share a memory of Daisy to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Obituary of Daisy Sidney-Davis Daisy L. Davis was born November 7, 1944, in Matagorda County, Texas to the late Alex Coleman Sidney and Alice Mae Edison Sidney. She accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church. Daisy was educated in the Van Vleck Community Schools, and she graduated from O.H. Herman High School as class Salutatorian. She is an alumna of Bishop College in Dallas, Texas, earning a Bachelor of Science in social sciences in 1966. Daisy joined the Rho chapter of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated, and is currently a member of the Kappa Zeta chapter, Dallas, Texas. She began her teaching practice with the Dallas Independent School District in 1966, retiring after 44 years of service. She held two master’s degrees, a Master of Arts in history from East Texas State University, and an M.Ed from Prairie View A&M University. A consummate teacher with an abiding intellectual curiosity, she completed much of the requisite coursework for her doctoral studies. A civic-minded woman focused on community, Daisy was a servant-leader. She served as the president of the Dallas, Texas chapter of Jack & Jill of America, Incorporated, and she was a life member of that organization. In addition, she was a member of the Trinity chapter of Top Ladies of Distinction, Inc., Dallas Historical Society, Dallas Retired Teachers Association, Seniors Actively Guiding Education, and a bevy of other civic and professional organizations, focused on scholarship and community outreach. Daisy was a consummate servant leader, and was routinely recognized for her stellar community and professional work. Her honors and recognitions include being named to Who's Who Among Women; Outstanding Adjunct Professor, El Centro College; the Jack Lowe Award for Outstanding Teaching in support of Educational Excellence; a Personalities of the South designee; Teacher of the Year at several DISD campuses; and she was a National Teacher of the Year Finalist. Daisy joined St. John Missionary Baptist Church where she served on the Board of Trustees, secretary of the adult Sunday School class, as well as secretary of Vacation Bible School. After uniting with the Friendship West Baptist Church, she enjoyed Sunday devotion and Wednesday Bible Study. A devotee of travel and having new experiences, she was pleased to see Motown the Musical on Broadway in New York City. She enjoyed vacationing in the mountains of North Carolina, and she loved spending time in South Texas, in Mexico and in Alabama. But she enjoyed nothing more then spending time with her children and with her extended family. She is pre-deceased by her parents and sisters Mary Ann Sidney, Ethel Gladys Sidney, and Margaret Sidney. Daisy is survived by her daughter Anaca Michelle Davis and son, Dr. Lowell Kent Davis. She is also survived by her three brothers, Donald Ray Sidney, Alex Coleman Sidney III, and Bruce Wayne Sidney. Also surviving are three sisters, Barbara Murray Green and Sherlyn Sidney Jackson. We will miss her winning personality and her can-do spirit; her memory will be our keepsake, and Daisy, our mother, sister, and venerable cousin will hold honored residency in our hearts for all eternity.
