Bernice Sneed Greenwood affectionately known as “Babymae” or “Aunt Poll” was the youngest daughter of Burton Sneed, Sr. and Ira Price born May 8, 1931 in Cuney, TX. She united with Rock Hill Baptist Church in Cuney at an early age until she graduated from Cuney High School in 1948 and left to attend Prairie View A & M College of Texas
Bernice enrolled and studied at Prairie View A & M where she earned a Bachelors’ degree in Home Economics in 1951 and a Master of Education in Elementary Education in 1956. She continued her education with postgraduate work in Vocational Counseling at North Texas University, Denton TX.
She was a teacher for 33 years, teaching multiple grades in Waxahachie Independent School District, Brownfield ISD, Corsicana ISD, and Dallas ISD where she taught at Sequoia Jr. High and Oliver Wendell Holmes Jr. High. After retiring from the Dallas ISD, she served as program specialist for the Family Service Center at the Department of Defense where she received numerous “Performance Awards. Her employer once said “Mrs. Greenwood is always eager to tackle something and create new programs.” That was demonstrated by her effort to provide over 40 programs each month exceeding “the fully successful” level for the family service center.
