Obituary of Theodore Jefferson Jr.
Theodore LaRose Jefferson, Jr. was born on July 9, 1948, in Chicago, Illinois, to Theodore LaRose Jefferson, Sr. and Alice Willis Jefferson.
He graduated from Hirsch High School in Chicago, Illinois, in 1967, where he played on the football team which, won the city championship. He attended the University of Wisconsin on a football scholarship and graduated in 1971 with a BS in Biodynamics. In 1975, he received his Master of Science in Urban Planning from University of Wisconsin. He worked as an elementary Physical Education teacher for three years.
He married Phyllis Biggiers on September 8, 1979.
Theodore worked at Dallas Housing Authority for over 20 years, where he rose to Chief Operating Officer. He furthered his career by working as Chief Operating Officer for the Charlotte Housing Authority in North Carolina. He continued his career growth in the housing industry by taking a position with Alpha-Barnes Real Estate Services as Vice President of Property Management, until his retirement in 2010.
He was a member of the Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, the University of Wisconsin Alumni Association and National Association of Housing and Redevelopment Officials (NAHRO). Theodore was a member of St. Luke “Community” United Methodist Church since 1987. He served several years as an usher with the Sunrise Ushers ministry.
Theodore loved to workout. He was a member of the downtown YMCA since 1996. Theodore prided himself on being a musicologist. He listened to all genres of music. His favorites were jazz and reggae.
Theodore made his transition on August 29, 2015. He is survived by Phyllis Jefferson, his spouse of 35 years; two children: son, Sharrod, and daughter, Arica; daughter-in-law, CaVonna; three grandchildren: Ajahla, Tulah, Satori and baby Jefferson (due in February); sister, Letitia Wims; in-laws, Alta Biggiers, Michael Biggiers and Paula Stokes-Biggiers; along with several nieces, nephews and cousins.
