Obituary of Missionary Usie Holyfield Usie Lee Holyfield was born October 28, 1938 to the parents of Cleveland and Richie Lee Gray in Lisbon, La. She was preceded in death by her loving parents, two sisters, six brothers and one grandson. Mother Holyfield slipped quietly away into eternity to be with the Lord on Saturday, August 22, 2015 with her devoted husband by her side. Mother Holyfield attended school in the Lisbon School District and she also attended Homer High School in Homer, La. She continued her education at El Centro College, where she received her CNA License. At the early age of 18 the Lord saved her on April 2, 1957 in their home on Vickers Street in West Dallas on their second wedding anniversary. That was the same day the tornado came through Dallas. Soon after, she became a member of Jerusalem Temple Church of God in Christ, under the leadership of Pastor Robert Sanford. She later became a member of True Vine Church of God in Christ under the leadership of Pastor A.D. Rylander, after serving there for several years; she became a member of Bible Deliverance Church of God in Christ under the leadership of Pastor Samuel Hamilton, and served there until the Lord called her husband to begin a work. The Zion Temple Church of God in Christ was established on June 15, 1980, and their youngest son Philip was the only member, and he wasn’t saved. She had a very special love for her Z.T. Church family, and also for the Church of God in Christ. She loved people of all walks of life, no matter what Race, Creed or Color. She never met a stranger. She helped anybody who needed help. She was known for feeding the homeless people in the southeast Dallas area for many years. Mother Holyfield was employed by the Dallas County Schools, and also Sears on Lamar Street, where she retired from to be a full time mom for her son Philip. She later became a Private Duty Caregiver for several years. On April 2, 1955 she was united in Holy Matrimony, and was married for 60 wonderful years, 4 months and 20 days to Wallace M. Holyfield (22.056.279 days). To this union four sons were born. She was a devoted wife and mother. She truly loved her family. She was appointed to be the Lighthouse District Missionary by the Late Bishop J. N. Haynes in 1986. She later became the District Missionary for the Starlight District until she resigned. She was also appointed by Bishop Haynes to be the National Prayer Captain of TXNE First Jurisdiction. In May of this year, she was selected to be a member of TXNE4th Jurisdiction Executive Board for State Supervisor, Designee, Irma Parker. She leaves to cherish her memory a loyal and devoted husband, Wallace Holyfield, four sons: Wallace (Cheryl), Marietta, GA, Cleosa (Sonya), Dallas, TX, Marshall (Brigit), Garland, TX and Philip, Dallas, TX. Nine grandchildren: Wallace, II, Stephan, Carleton, Nicholas, Jasmine, David, Skyy, Philip, and Wallace, III. Five great grandchildren: Tre Mczale, Madison, Dallas, Belen & Stephan. Three brothers, Clevel, and Jewel Gray of Dallas, TX and Charles Gray of Shreveport, La. Four sisters, Eura D. Phelps, of Dallas, TX, Shirley Hill (Charles) DeSoto, TX, Dorethea Gibson (John), and Delores Gray, both of Ruston, La., and one step-sister, Jackie Wright of Monroe, La. One maternal uncle, Lorenzo Marlary of Los Angeles, CA, one aunt, Orean Rance of Portland, OR., one sister in law and two brother in laws, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. One adopted son, (Supt. Vann E. Medlock) A few of her favorite scriptures were: I Thessalonians 4:15-18, Hebrew 12:14, and Psalms 121:1-2
