Obituary of Brian Sam
Brian Leron Sam was born on December 31, 1974, in Houston, Texas to Joseph and Janice Sam.
He passed away on Tuesday, July 28, 2015, at Baylor Hospital, Dallas, Texas.
Brian accepted Jesus Christ as His Lord and Savior during a summer neighborhood Bible Study at Sugarberry Park in Duncanville, Texas. Soon afterwards he was baptized, and grew spiritually at Oak Cliff Bible Fellowship. During Brian’s brief journey on earth, we believe he touched countless lives with the love of God–some we will never know or meet.
Brian spent his elementary school years in Duncanville schools, before transferring during the sixth grade to St. Mark’s School of Texas, which is a private college preparatory school in Dallas. Although the academic demands of high school were great, Brian made time for involvement in his favorite sports-soccer and basketball. He also volunteered at Pine Cove Christian Camping Center and the Dallas Maverick’s organization.
At St. Mark’s he was a member of the Community Service Committee, Headmaster Search Committee, Spanish Club, and several other organizations.
Upon graduation from St. Mark’s in 1994, the next phase of his life involved completing two years at the University of Texas in Austin, majoring in International Business. He later returned to Dallas to work in his parent’s automotive leasing business.
Brian’s smile, loving and gentle spirit will be missed by his parents, his sisters, Jovonne “Shai” Sam, Jana Sam, and Janay Sam. He also leaves to mourn his passing caring aunts, uncles, cousins, nephews, OCBF church family, and numerous friends.
Befitting are the words Brian quoted on his high school senior yearbook page (taken from a song by Michael W. Smith):
“And friends are friends forever
If the Lord’s the Lord of them
And a friend will not say “Never”
Cause the welcome will not end
Though it’s hard to let you go
