Obituary of Doris Lee Bass

Please share a memory of Doris to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Obituary of Doris Bass E vangelist Doris Lee Bass is the third of nine children born to the late John Dallas and Rosie Lee Bell Goodman. Of these nine children, Doris Lee is one of three children who were called to the ministry to deliver the Word of God. Her siblings preceded her in death. Evangelist Bass was educated in Athens, Texas. She received a degree in Secretarial Science from Phillips Business School and also received a degree in Theology from Southern Bible College both located in Dallas, Texas. At an early age she united with the Church of the Living God, PGT in Athens, Texas under Bishop C.C. Berry, Sr. After moving to Dallas she united with the Church of the Living God, C.W.F.F., Temple #145. Evangelist Bass was married to the late Theophilus Bass over 50 years and is the mother of three children: Glenda, Jerome, and Kelvin. She is the proud grandmother of seven, great-grandmother of eleven, great-great grandmother of one. Evangelist Bass loves children, not only those in her family, but others as well. She worked with the children in the church as sponsor of the Junior Choir, now known as the Voices of Biglow. She was sponsor of the Betty Goodwin Memorial Choir, sponsor for children’s special programs and for many years, was sponsor for the Y.P.P.U., training and teaching children the ways of the Lord. She sponsored many activities for the children and carried them all over the country to our church; District and National Conventions. Evangelist Bass was active at the District level and served as president of the District Chorus and Ways and Means Committee. Over the years, she served in many positions in the church such as Senior Choir member, Church Secretary, Mission Circle Chairman, Associate Minister and served as Interim Pastor three times. Through a vote of the membership. Evangelist Bass was chosen as Pastor Emeritus of Temple #145. Evangelist Bass was multi-talented and worked in many fields from cook to secretary. She was a seamstress who could make anything from children’s clothes to men’s suits and choir robes. She crocheted, knitted, made draperies, and re-upholstered furniture. In 1986, she retired from Rockwell International in Richardson, Texas. Evangelist Bass has done many things in her life, held many positions and worked in a variety of fields, but none pleased her more than being a servant for the Lord working as an Evangelist telling men, women, girls and boys about God and leading them to Christ. In her later years, although Evangelist Bass was unable to participate in the everyday activities here at the church, she loved the Lord to her final breath and was excited and anxious at the very mention of going to church. She leaves to cherish her memories her children: Glenda Jones (Walter), Jerome Bass (Carolyn), Kelvin Bass (Shelia); grandchildren: Terrance Bass (Antionette), Quenton Bass, Marlon Bass (Tonya), Adrian McCoy, LaJoi Bass, Kamron Bass, Kim; and a host of other relatives and friends.
