Please share a memory of Matilda to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Obituary of Matilda Jackson Matilda Alberta Jackson (Madear) was born on September 23, 1925, in Mexia, Texas; the first of four children to the late Malloy Freeman and Ritter Lee Reid. She graduated high school in Mexia, and later moved to Dallas, Texas, in 1954. She was married to William D. Jackson, Sr., who passed away in 1967. To this union, eight wonderful children were born. Madear was the proud mother of William, Jr. (Brother), Shirley (Sister), Earnestine (Stine), Ruby (ReeRee), James, Nellie (Ann), Jimmy and Ricky. Three of her children preceded her in death. Thirty of her later years were spent with a special friend, Mr. D.C. Willis, who also preceded her in death. Madear was baptized at an early age and was a devoted member of Chapel Hill Baptist Church; for over fifty years. She served faithfully on the usher board until her health declined. She worked at Parkland Hospital, eventually retiring after thirteen years of service. She loved participating in domestic hospitality, caring for the less fortunate, and helping anyone she could. She also enjoyed traveling, visiting the elderly, and spending time reading daily devotionals. She leaves behind loved ones who will miss her dearly: three sisters, Ruby Lewis (Mommie), Isabelle (Aunt Bee), and Nellie May (Aunt Nell); three daughters, Earnestine Peoples, Shirley Whitlow (Robert), and Nellie Andrews; two sons, Jimmy Jackson (Billie Jean), and Ricky Jackson (Pearl); twenty grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren; sixteen great-great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
