Obituary of Winnie Mae Daniels

Obituary of Winnie Daniels Sis. Winnie Mae Daniels was born November 16, 1922, in Queen City, TX to the parentage of John Wesley Williams and Annie Belle Butts. She grew up and attended schools in Dallas, TX where she became a proud graduate of Lincoln High School in 1942. After graduation she attended a Dallas County Community College. Winnie married Alfred "Butch" Daniels on September 6, 1943. They were married for 34 years until his death in 1978. From their marriage came one daughter, Winnie Ruth Daniels, in 1949. Winnie Mae took much delight in naming her daughter Winnie Ruth, and she affectionately called their tandem "The Two Winnies." Their bond was extremely close. However, like her husband, "Butch," Winnie Ruth also preceded her mother in death in 2003. For years, Winnie worked at various schools in the Dallas Independent School District as a Librarian and School Clerk. She retired in 1987, and was happy to reply "I'm a retiree" to anyone who thereafter asked her about going to work or starting a second career. Retirement did not keep Winnie from her passion of working with children and youth as she continued to work with the children and youth ministries of the church as she had done for most of her life. Reared as a Christian from an early age, Winnie was an active member of several CME churches in Dallas prior to joining Cedar Crest Cathedral CME Church, over 30 years ago. She distinguished herself as a faithful member of the Stewardess and Missionary ministries. More than a member, over the years she also served as an officer at the Local, District, Regional, and Connectional levels. The walls of her home could scarcely contain the certificates, plaques, awards, citations, and commendations she received for her service to God through her church and community. Winnie loved people. She was known to be talkative, friendly, and enjoyed giving and receiving hardy handshakes, hugs and kisses. After leaving church and visiting with family and friends, Winnie Mae Daniels went to bed on Sunday, November 9th. Somewhere in the early morning hours of Monday, November 10, 2014, she awoke in the arms of God as He carried her from this land of earthly labors to the realm of heavenly reward. In addition to her parents, husband, and daughter, she was preceded in death by her sisters: Rose Mitchell and Diana Williams, and her brother: Edward Jack Bishop Williams. She leaves to cherish her memory her sister, Alice Booker; brother, John W. Williams (Sandra); a special great-niece LaCoya Williams (Rev. Van Carl) whom she named her executor, heir, and caregiver, and affectionately called "Winnie #3;" and a host of other nieces, nephews, family members, and friends.
