Joyce LaDell McKenzie was born September 13, 1947, in Telico, Texas, to Olether and Iretta Gamble. She was educated in Ennis ISD, where she graduated in 1965.
At a young age she professed her belief in the Lord Jesus Christ and united with Bright Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church. She later joined New Victory Praise Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Phillip Jenkins. She attended and graduated from Southern Bible Institute.
Joyce McKenzie was preceded in death by her parents, Olether Sr. and Iretta Gamble; brothers: Rev. Edgar Glenn, Joe Gamble, Gene Travis Gamble and Olether Jr.; sisters: Beluah Elder, Melva Chiles, Barbara Martin, Geneva McMillian, Dorothy Gamble and Fern Gamble.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her son, Jonathan D. McKenzie (Shunwana); grandsons, Jonathan Jr. and Ja’lon; granddaughter, Aniya; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
