Obituary of Carolyn Warren Moore
Please share a memory of Carolyn to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Carolyn Warren Hawkins Moore was born November 20, 1949, in Jefferson, Texas to George and Patricia Hawkins, the first born of five children. She received her early education in Amarillo, Texas and graduated in 1967 from Hirschi High School in Wichita Falls, Texas. She attended Texas Woman’s University where she studied nursing.
She eventually made her way to Dallas where she worked at Blue Cross Blue Shield for several years before beginning her tenure at the United States Postal Service where she was employed until her death.
Carolyn married Gerald Black and to their union the apple of her eye, her only child, Ornate was born.
As the first born, Carolyn was nicknamed the “Commander and Chief” by her father, due to her strong leadership skills and dominant personality. Those leadership skills would hold her in great stead as she would guide, protect and hold each of her siblings to a higher standard as they navigated adolescence and into adulthood. She was an avid reader and could converse about any topic. She loved to garden and shop for antiques. Carolyn was truly authentic, you never had to wonder what she was thinking as she would be sure to tell you. In spite of her sometimes tough delivery, her heart was always in the right place and those that truly knew and loved her felt that. Her greatest passion was her family, particularly her son Nate and her granddaughter Lauren. Most of her conversations were sprinkled with anecdotes of her time and adventures with Lauren.
Carolyn is preceded in death by her father, George Hawkins, her mother, Patricia Hawkins and her brother, George Hawkins.
Carolyn expired on June 18, 2018 after a lengthy illness and will live on in the lives and memories of her family: her loving and devoted son, Ornate, her dutiful and loving daughter in law, Stacy, and her granddaughter Lauren; her siblings, Anthony and Barbara Hawkins of Houston, Texas, Ollievette and Leonard Rollings of Mesquite, Texas and Ann and Michael Richardson of Colorado Springs, Colorado; nieces and nephews, Millicent Hawkins, Aaron Hawkins, Jarred Hawkins, Danielle and Chris Piggee, George Hawkins II, Brandon Hawkins, Kelvin Christian, Nyeshia and Mikel Woolen, Dayfonze Rollings; Dominique Robertson, Jarron Robertson and Marri Richardson; her Godchildren, Tia Simmons, Alexander Simmons and Mari Sifo; her lifelong brother and sister/friends Alexander and Juanita Simmons; and a host of great nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
