Obituary of Ramona Franklin McCain Ramona C. Franklin McCain was born in Brenham, TX. She was preceded in death by her mother, Frankie Johnson Watson; father, Herbert Franklin; husband, Claude McCain, Jr; sister, Iris Franklin Knotts and brother, James C. Watson, Jr. After graduating from Phyllis Wheatley High School in Houston, TX; Ramona was awarded a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music from Wiley College (1952), a Master of Arts degree in Music Education from Texas Southern University (1957) and a Master of Arts degree in Guidance and Counseling from Southern Methodist University (1967). She retired from the Dallas Independent School District after thirty-five years of service as a teacher and guidance counselor In 1954, Ramona married her Wiley College sweetheart, Claude McCain, Jr. and planted roots in Dallas, TX. Their marriage flourished for forty years until his transition in 1995. As promised when he married her, they traveled across the United States throughout those years and lived for a period of time in Ithaca, NY and Philadelphia, PA while he continued his studies. Since residing in Dallas, Ramona had been a devoted member of Warren United Methodist Church and an active volunteer. Following retirement, her time was spent in a number of various community activities. She was a golden-life member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. (past president), an alumnae-status member of the Dallas Chapter of the Links, Inc. (past president) and a committed member of the Library Friends @ the Paul L. Dunbar Lancaster-Keist Library, the Cedar Crest Neighborhood Association, the Dallas Retired Teachers Association, the Dallas Metroplex Music Association and the United Methodist Women. . Ramona is survived by her son, Michael Ervell McCain; daughter, Demetria Lynn McCain, Esq.; granddaughters, Alexis McCain and Brianna McCain, several nieces, nephews, cousins and other devoted family members and friends.
