Obituary of Lula Brooks Miles
Lula Mae Brooks Miles was born March 16, 1944, in Mobile, Alabama to the parentage of Jodie Brooks and Etta James Brooks. Lula accepted Christ at an early age. Lula began her formal education in Choctaw Bluff, Alabama and graduated from Central High School in Mobile, Alabama. Shortly after graduation, Lula followed her beloved Aunt Willie Mae to Dallas, Texas, in search of better opportunities.
Lula married James Leonard Miles in March of 1974, and together they labored in the vineyard, opened their home to many seeking better opportunities, raised their children, and entertained friends and family. Lula loved a great card game, especially Bid Whist.
Lula was a faithful member of East Gate Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend H.D. Reagan. She was a member of the culinary team, and she assisted with the clothing and food pantries. Lula was well-known from Texas to Alabama to Georgia for her fried chicken, fried fish, collards, cabbage, and her iced tea punch. She was lovingly known to feed the neighborhood, literally.
Lula departed this life peacefully on Friday, September 13, 2013. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Miles; her parents; and one sister, Joyce Brooks.
