Obituary of Mary Smith
Mary Ann Smith, the 11th of 12 children, born to Percy Maurice and Elese Holt Johnson on February 14, 1945 in Hope, Arkansas.
She spent her early childhood in Hope, Arkansas, where she confessed her faith in Christ at a young age and joined Union Chapel Baptist Church. She moved to Dallas, Texas with her family in 1953 and united with Mosely Chapel C.M.E. Church.
Mary Ann graduated from James Madison High School in Dallas in 1961. She was a long time employee of the United States Postal Service until her retirement in 1983. Although retired she opened and operated a home daycare facility where she cared for many children lovingly until 2000.
In 1962, she married Lawrence Stephenson and of this union, one child, Christy Laurette Shedd (Stephenson) was born. In 1973, she married Albert Smith and of this union, one child, Nicole Denise Hutcherson (Smith) was born.
Preceeding her in death are her parents, Percy and Elese Johnson; five brothers, Marvin, Charles, Pink, Cleo and Joe Johnson; two sisters, Reather Mae Jones and Zenobia Clemons.
She Leaves to cherish her memory: her daughters, Christy Laurette Shedd and Nicole Denise Hutcherson; Two Sisters, Bettye L Smith (James) and Minnie P Johnson r (Bruce Director); Two brothers, Osteen Johnson and James W Johnson (Kay); Two granddaughters, Brianna N Hutcherson and Bethany A Kemp (Willie); One grandson SGT Jordan R Shedd (Alicia); One great grandson Andrew S Kemp and one great granddaughter Loren A Shedd, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
