Obituary of Bennie Smith Powell
Bennie Jean Smith Powell was born July 24, 1914 in San Augustine, Texas to William and Phyllis Matlock Lane. She received her formal education in the san Augustine Public schools. She retired as a presser for a dress factory after many years of service.
Bennie confessed Christ at an early age. She was a member of Shady Grove Primitive Baptist Church where she was the Mother of the church and served on the kitchen committee.
She met and married the late Levi Smith. She later united in marriage to Wilson Powell.
Her smile was infectious and her personality filled with passion and vibrancy. Those who were close to Bennie were touched by her loving spirit and thoughtfulness. Knowing Bennie helped you understand that it is the quality of one's existence that far exceeds the quantity of time lived. Her loving smile brought so much joy to everyone. Her loving kindness reminded us of the preciousness of life. Her memorable life will forever live on in the hearts of those who loved her.
She is preceded in death by her husband Wilson Powell, her parents and her sister Ezell White. She passed away May 10, 2013.
She leaves to cherish her memory her step-daughter, step-grandchildren, her loving church family and friends.
