She and the family joined Mount Calvary Baptist Church under the pastorate of the late Rev. Jesse L. Wheeler, where she served in the choir and the Ruth's Circle. In 1999, the family returned to Dallas, and she reunited with Golden Gate Missionary Baptist Church, under the pastorate of Minister Vincent T. Parker. Deborah began working for the United States Postal Service in March, 1981, where she served for 30 years. In August, 2011, she retired as the Bardin Station Manager in Arlington, Texas.
