Obituary of Sylvia Ann Taylor

Please share a memory of Sylvia to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Sylvia Ann (Morris) Taylor was born in Berkley, California on June 15, 1947 to the parents of Lawrence II and Otha Mae Morris. She received Christ at an early age: grew up and attended Munger Avenue Baptist Church under the pastorship of Dr. B.E. Joshua and religiously and diligently served in the youth choir, Sunday Church School and BTU (Baptist Training Union). Her family moved to Dallas when she was young child, where she attended Dallas Public Schools. She was a graduate of Booker T. Washington High School, received her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Early Child Education and Development from Texas Woman’s University, and accumulated additional hours towards a Master’s Degree. In 1970, she married her high school sweetheart, Charles H. Taylor, and to this union one child was born. Sylvia’s teaching career began at Head Start of Greater Dallas where she taught and shortly after was promoted to Parent Coordinator. Later she gained employment with Dallas Independent School District as one of the first GED Teachers for the Dallas County Jail System; in which the majority of her career was fulfilled and committed to instructing their Inmate Adult Education Program. During her 28 years of employment she received several awards and recognition for her dedication and genuine interest in inmates’ educational success and rehabilitation. Loved and adored by many, Sylvia will be remembered for her spunky, feisty, and comical personality. Her caregiving nature and unselfishness acts she expressed towards her family never went unnoticed. For Sylvia, taking care of family was a full time job and her main priority. She leaves to cherish her memory: husband, Charles Taylor; daughter, Guybreet McKinney (Herman); sister, Brenda Morris; brother, Lawrence Morris III; brother-in-law, George Taylor; sister-in-law, Carolyn Loftis; step-daughter Sharli Watson Stephen (Kelvin); step-grandsons Keyvireon Brooks and Malquay Bell; step-granddaughter Kenzli Stephen; extended families; Alphane McKinney and family, Michael Chambers and family, Myrna Berry and family, Floyd Fearce and family, Vera Parks and family; Linda Davis and family, Willie Mae Wilson and family, LaRon Wilson and family; and a host of other relatives and friends.
