Obituary of Bobby Ray Cox

Bobby Ray Cox, was born February 9, 1944 in Dallas Texas to the parents of the late Jessie and Angie Williams Cox. He was educated in the Dallas Independent School District. He graduated from James Madison High School in the class of 1962 where he was an outstanding athlete. He immediately enlisted in the United States Navy where he competed in boxing, received the National Defense Service Medal, and was honorably discharged after four years. Educational Accomplishments: • Degree of Bachelor of Arts Sociology (California State University, Long Beach- 1971) (Football Athlete) • Masters of Science in Counseling Degree (California State University, Long Beach – 1986) • Licensed as a Psychological Associate by the Texas State Board of Examiners of Psychologist (1994) • Licensed as a Specialist in School Psychology by the Texas State Board of Examiners of Psychologist (1996) In California, he began his professional career with the Boy Scouts of America (Marketing & Promoting), and then went on to become the Director of Student Activities at Compton College. He relocated to Texas and continued his career with the Dallas Independent School District where he worked as a Counselor/Case Manager. He was an advocate of higher education. He collaborated on a community to college program to support higher education focusing on and encouraging at risk students. He received numerous awards for outstanding service and dedication from the Dallas Independent School District where he retired after 25 years of service. He enjoyed watching movies (especially historical documentaries), listening to his favorite music (BB King, Teddy Pendergrass, and Marvin Gaye), enjoyed cooking for people, playing golf, and reminiscing about playing football and running track as he listened to the crowd yell “the dog’s got the bone and gone”. Bobby Ray Cox was preceded in death by his parents Jessie and Angie Williams Cox, Brothers Leroy and Charles, and son Bobby Clarence (Mother: Judith Reaves). Bobby is survived by significant other Lutena “Ricky” Washington Wooten, Children: Jessie Ray (Mother: Judith Reaves), Ray Herring, Sharifa Batts (Cameron), Khari Ajene (Asia), Anthony Leon (Jamica), (Mother: Hattie Ree Herring) Grandchildren: Victoria, Sydney, Camiya, Ashton, Brayden, Tyler, Khai, Cali, Great-Grandchild: Phoenix, Two siblings: Jesse Cox, Jr. (Winifret) and Beverly Williams (Wilber). He was privileged to have a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, and loving friends. You will be missed by all.
