Obituary of Vertis Cooper
Mother Vertis Marie Cooper was the first born to the late Leon and Nora Crosby on October 16, 1922 in Hallsville, Texas. She was raised by the late Rev. and Mrs. C.L. Jones in Corsicana, Texas. In the late 30's , she met and married Wallace Cooper (deceased), to this union a son Verely was born. After the death of Mr. Cooper, Vertis traveled to west Texas to live with her father. She then met the late Samuel Davis, father to Dorothy, Caroll, Walter and Bertha.
Mother Cooper accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age. She loved wherever needed 9Church Secretary, Treasurer, Sunday School Teacher, Usher Board and Choir). While living in Kermit for over 30 years she attended the Maple St. Baptist Church where the late Rev. B.O. White was the pastor. She later joined the Maple St. COGIC, there the late Elder L. W. Dixon was the pastor.
In the summer of 1975, Mother Cooper moved to Dallas to be with her children. She then joined Deliverance Tabernacle Revival where the late Bishop Milton and Bernice Jones were the pastors. When her health began to fail, she attended Holy Trinity COGIC where Elder T.T. Terry Sr. is the minister.
At the time of her death, mother Cooper resided at Park Manor Nursin Home in DeSoto, Texas. Mother Cooper loved flowers and she loved cooking and singing God's praises. (She was known for her high pitched humming). But, most of all, she loved her family. She will be soley missed by all.
Cherishing her memories forever are her children: Verely Cooper (Brenda), Dorothy Campbell (Dale), Caroll Roland, Walter Davis and Bertha Terry (Gamaliel). Grandchildren: Freda, Aaron, Craig, Stephanee, Anthony, Angela and Brian. Fifteen great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. One sister, Lealer Mae Gray (Kermit, TX.), Brothers: Curtis Toliver(Willie), Fred Toliver (Iva) both of Austin , TX. And Garee Toliver (Lubbock,TX) and a host of nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.
Funeral Service: 11am, Fri., 6/22/12, Galilee Missionary Baptist Church-4535 Vandervort Dr.-Dallas, TX
Interment: Laurel Land Memorial Cemetery, Dallas, TX.
